CZ VZ58 SPORTER or NORINCO M4? Help Me!!

It depends on whether you care about restricted vs. non-restricted status. If you only ever plan on shooting at a range, I would choose the M4, since you can get the 10 round AR pistol magazines. I would hold off on the Vz 58 in .223 until the promised AR mag adapter is actually on the market.

ok fellas , lets get a few facts straight.

1. its a SA VZ58 sporter not CZ VZ58 sporter. its new from wolverine .

2. avail in 7.62x39 but also avail .223 which the OP is interested in .

3. its comes in 1 non-rest and 4 restricted forms (carbine and compact).
so comparing to M4 , i will assume the OP is only interested in restricted .

If you're going restricted anyway, Norinco M4 all the way. Non-restricted is MUCH less of a headache, and if that matters to you (i.e. if you have access to farmland you can shoot on), I would definitely go for the VZ58.

The one for sale I am looking at is at P & D Enterprises in Edmonton and is listed as a "CZ VZ58 SPORTER" in .223

I assume this is a different rifle than the one Wolverine is selling. Correct me if I am wrong. :D

All .223 CZ-type rifles in Canada will be made by the same manufacturer and imported by Wolverine. Wolverine distributes them to dealers across the country.

The only difference will be different barrel lengths, when the carbines and compacts hit the shelves.

i see where you got the "CZ VZ58 SPORTER" from but as you can see below , wolverine clearly state its not made by CZ.

Personally.. the best part about the CZ/VZ rifles is the cheap, hard hitting x39 ammo. Going with the new 5.56 sporter negates the major advantage that this platform provides.

Not that I'm against 5.56.. I think that the AR can be an effective tool for this caliber.

That being said.. if it's a decision between a VZ and an AR..

get both.

Ah yes, but what happens if you live in a province like NB, where there are calibre restrictions outside of deer season, and you can't use your guns off range without a valid hunting licence? Your 7.62X39 gun becomes a range only toy for most of the year. THAT'S the allure for one chambered in .223/5.56 out here.

If the anticipated AR magazine adapter isn't too much this (SA VZ58 rifle) would be a great option to the mini 14. The M4 or AR platform is great but it is extremely limiting by being restricted. The VZ in non restricted with a LAR 10 round mag would be a hoot, can you put on wood furniture?
