Looking for some thoughts on the CZ 452 Varmint or the Savage Mark II TR in 22lr.
Tyring to decide which one to get. Both are very close in price and I have no experience with either. My intention is to put a 3200 10x on it and use it to shoot targets out to 200 with some luck. Don't plan on doing a great deal of hunting with it but you never know.

thanks

I love my CZ452 Varmint, so pretty and accurate.

I really like my Savage MKIIF and MKIGY as well, and will no doubt like the TR.

TR and 452 Varmint accuracy would be close, may be too close to tell.

But the Savage TR is priced pretty close to the CZ so if I were to choose, I'd spend the extra few bucks for the 452. CZ452 Varmints are sometimes available on the EE for 450 shipped. YMMV

I'm out of this one. I have shot both and ended up buying the CZ 452 Varminter.

Both guns are accurate. For me it came down to cheekweld and fit.

Where the hell can I find a Mark II TR right now?

i'm looking at the Savage mark2 FV or TR. i really love the look of the TR, but the cost difference between the two is to much. i will likely be getting the FV.

I think LeBarons has the TR on special right now. I'd go CZ, but I like walnut/blued and feel the CZ is a nicer looking/feeling rifle. As long as you upgrade the trigger.

I do a lot of target shooting a 100-200 rounds a week and have shot and seen many different rifles But only own two one being CZ 452 varmint for the price its hard to beat this rifle. My favourite practice ammo is CCI Standard Velocity which groups really good this target is at 50 yards

If you want really tight groups just feed it SK standard Plus.

That is how my rifle shoots off the bags some will do better but that comes at a huge cost. My suggestion is go with the 452 Varmint but i personally dislike the accu-triger.

Lebaron's in Toronto (Woodbine&7) had one a coupe weeks ago. Came with the Tac rail (no charge) like the TRR. With the membership 10% discount and no HST promo(I think its still on) makes it a good deal!
I almost bought it but ended up with a Rem SPS Tactical .223 for "long" range shooting.

well I tried both and love them both

A friend of mine has the CZ 452 Varmint and I have the Savage Mark II TR in 22lr

We enjoy shooting golf balls at 100 yds without a problem, both are tack drivers.

After, it is just a question of handling, which one feels better for you.

You also mention hunting..even if you don't know yet if you will, but then you have to consider the weight of your gun _with a scope_ on your back all day long in the woods/hills.....

For hunting and range use, a CZ452 American with the 16 inch threaded(muzzle) barrel just might be the ticket. It is light and doesn't need a thick bull barrel for rigidity as it is only 16 inches long. Velocity is not compromised as experts have experimented and proven that 16 inch barrels in 22LR is long enough to develop maximum velocity. Since you will scope it, you don't need the long barrel for its long sight radius, besides the Varmint doesn't come with sights anyways.

Reviews have documented accuracy as good as or better than the 19 inch Varmint.

To top it all, the 16 incher looks so pretty. Much like a 1911 Officer's Model is so well proportioned, IMO.

Thanks for the good info folks, pls keep it coming.

Easyrider, I never really considered the 16" model but will now have a look at it.

I have a TR and love it. Recently switched from CCI Blazer to CCI Standard Velocity in order to gain more consistent groupings. It shoots 1'' @ 100 yards no problems with just a front bag. I will be doing some testing this weekend again @ 100 and 50 in order to work out the elevation settings to re-shim my scope etc... so will report back with some group sizes and pictures if I can.

In the end, I choose the TR as I prefer a pistol styled grip on my rifles and I also wanted more of a tactical looking rifle vs a normal/hunting styled rifle. But I also love the accu-trigger!

So I managed to get a few rounds down range @ 100 yards today before other members showed up to do some silhouette practice but before I was done I managed to get a real nice 5 shot group of .750'' using CCI Standard Velocity.

Will try to post some pictures later on in the evening thou ;)

sounds like your tr is printing some nice groups....I've been checking around and they are about as hard to find as hens teeth these days! I did manage to find a really good price on a BV but I don't think that is what I'm really looking for.

I'd really like to be able to see the CZ 452 varmint in person so I can make the decision. Very few shops around here and I can't seem to find a CZ to compare.

Have you tried Ellwood Epps? They had one listed on their website @ $411.xx but its now listed as sold. Maybe give them a call and see if they have any more on order or whether they can check to see if their supplier has one available or not.

^^^These were pretty much my exact thoughts when I ordered my American with the 16" barrel...hope it arrives soon.

I already tried that...it was sold before I could call them. They don't know if a TR will be in their next shipment or not, best they could tell me was to keep calling back.

Too bad though, not a bad price.
