Bushmaster ACRs recalled

Wow this one has really gone sideways.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, once they finally work out all the kinks.

I wonder how much involvement Magpul still has in this project?

From what I've heard and read, they designed it, and then handed it off to Remington/Bushmaster for production and revision testing.

i have not looked into what the ACR is and is not so i ask from a place off pure ignorance, but what do the scar and or the ACR offer that make them better then an AR?
Why reinvent the wheel here?

The US mil can buy AR's much cheaper then an ACR or SCAR, the armorers are already trained, they are sitting on piles of stock.... etc......... seems like a costly change for a new platform that does not really do much but add weight and cost.

I don't believe they were suppose to replace the AR for general issue. SCAR stands for Special Forces Combat Assault Rifle and was made for USSOCOM and other specialists while the Army was looking at the XM8. This SCAR program also birthed the XCR and the ACR was based on SCAR concepts (Multicalibre rifle systems, AR ergonomics, light, synthetic, modular or just basically tacticool). For forward lookers, it was also made when the 5.56 lethality debate was at it's height and if the US forces made a switch to, say 6.8 SPC, it would just be a barrel swap. Also, the ACR was designed by Magpul to overcome what they thought were flaws in the AR design.
