So I have a horror story to tell you guys.

A few days ago a buddy of mine was about to pour some footings for this new house, when the home owner comes up to the crew and asks them to stop and come look at something. As they approach the man he is holding a wooden box and opens it to reveal a very nice original colt 1911 stamped 1918 i believe. He then tells them a story about his father bringing it home from the war and passing it to him upon his death many years ago.*

After a good long talk and everyone playing with it, he tells them he wants to put the gun in the footings of the house to be buried under concrete for "good luck" at this point Rob is losing it offering him several hundred cash for the gun. The guy wouldnt listen, so as the truck pulls up and starts pouring he tosses it into the footings and its gone. Then they poured the walls twelve feet high on top. Rob said that when he put it in he was very emotional and choked up, i guess it was also sort of saying goodbye.

When i heard this i almost fell over, how someone could do this to something so historical and beautiful is beyond me. It would have been a much greater honor to his father to have someone preserve it and shoot it like it was meant to be.*

Thought i would share this with you guys.*

What are your thoughts on this ?

OR..... He could be lying and it is actually a gun that was used in a serious crime and he thinks he's figured out a way to make sure that on one ever finds it..... :D Just sayin'....

It reminds me of the time I was living in St.John's about 20 years ago. Back then we had to drop off and pick up res firearms at the local cop shop while they were being registered. Just as I was leaving a man and a woman carrying a Boys Anti tank rifle her father had brought back from the war and recently died. I offered to buy it then and there from them, there was nothing I could say or do to convince them, they were turning it in because they though they could be arrested for having those "army guns".
I waited in my car and seen then make 5 trips with ammo cans and gun cases. Some of the guns were in what I learned later were military canvas cases and one transit case. God knows what they turned in.
I often wondered what they would say, if they knew what those "army" guns were worth.:(

I think it would've been sadder if he sold it to your friend for a few hundred bucks.

This gun obviously meant something to him. He thought about this plan. You're thinking about it as a gun. He's thinking about it as a sentimental piece from his father. From his perspective he is immortalizing this sentimental piece by integrating it into his house.

Hahaha and the plot thickens DUN DUN DUUNN!!

Thanks for all your thoughts on this guys, McLean

i think all he has to do now (if the gun was ever registered) is to report it destroyed. wonder what the cfc is going to say about that....haha i can imagine the headaches

And even if it is found, it's full of other people's fingerprints. Clever.

It would be funny if the cops tracked down this thread, arrived with a search warrant and tore the whole house down to bare earth looking for the unregistered handgun.

What the home owner did under the circumstances was illegal. We can presume if the 1911 was not registered then what he was in illegal possession of it. And in any case it was not disposed of appropriately.
