Greetings everyone,

I want to share some pictures of my M1 :D. I took me almost 2 years to find one like this, but I think it was worth it. As far as I can tell it is a Springfield Armory M1, and all the parts appear to be SA and original as well; except for the stock as I have no idea.

The serial number is very low; 6 digits, compared to the ones that I have seen pictures of in the 7 digit range. I checked online and my serial# places it in 1941. The person I got it from had limited details about so maybe someone here on CGN could fill me in.

I have taken it to the range, and it is absolutely a fantastic shooter, very nice groupings with Hornady 150 gr FMJBT with 46gr IMR4895.

I just had a question about the barrel serial as it's not followed by ###### SA, just wondering if its SA made or by a different manufacturer.

Thanks.

You're right about the date. That number puts her May 1941 http://www.fulton-armory.com/tea/m1serial.htm

I just got in my 1943 SA Garand. Appears to be same deal with all correct SA parts. Not sure if this is the actual location for the bbl number, but under the op-rod on the bbl it's stamped 1-S-A-10 4 with a P where it tapers.

I am not a garand expert by any means, this is actually my first time with one, but that's what's on mine. Will try to get pictures up at some point soon.

Actually I would put it at May 1941.

Your bolt would date form March 1942 on.

Your trigger housing would date form April 1941 on.

Op rod dates form March 1941 on.

Looks like the bolt doesn't "match" if you are looking for a correct period piece, which a lot of people do. Personally i dont see it as a big deal.

Look at the side of the barrel with the op rod retracted. It should show the SA plus month/year for a wartime bbl.

Hey right on! My barrel says says 2-S-A-4-44, so April 1944? So I guess overall the whole rifle is SA, just the parts are from different years. Maybe to meet production quota's during the war or pieced together after?

Nice find! I have a six digit from 1942.

Thanks. It took me almost 2 years to find a nice M1 like this. I would mostly come across the danish ones in .308. As soon as I saw this one, I bought it with lightning speed precision :D wasn't cheap, but I'm happy.

That looks like a very nice M1 Garand! I see no issues at all, although I am no expert. That all parts appear to be of wartime manufacture is such a plus! I cannot tell if this one has the locking bar on the rear site or not. Most people do not realize that the locking bar was not placed on until approx March of 1942.
Excellent find, one you will want to hold onto for a very long time. I am surprised it only took you a couple years to locate. The one I chased took well over a decade!
Congrats again, and thank you for showing:)
