I know this is a wide open question but I am just looking for ideas. I am working on a load for my Browning A bolt using a 140 gr hunting bullet. So far I am not happy with the results I have got. I have tried Nosler ballistic tips with IMR 7828 and nosler partitions with IMR 4350. Suggestions?

The results are grouping larger than I expect... 3". I will have a look at the Nosler site, thxs.
This is a new rifle and i am really just starting the process.

How much effect does OAL have? I have not plyed with that yet.

I've had good luck with 160gr bullets and IMR7828, RL22 and, when it was still available H870.

Are you stuck on the 140's?

So Pinebettle, how does the gun shoot with factory ammo?
I would look at that as my second choice of items to chase,
the first thing I would look at is the range bags and rifle rest and work from that angle.
I'm just saying try a box of factory ammo and see what kind of results you get there....
Just adding some fuel to your campfire.

My old A-Bolt loved 150gr Ballistic Tips with 62.0gr of IMR-4350, W-W brass, Win WLRM primers. Chrony showed 3200fps avg. Tried both 140 and 150 grain bullets but that rifle liked 150's better and the on game performance was spectacular.

No I am not stuck on the 140 I have always used 162gr. I switched rifles and was wanting a lighter bullets looking for a good long range deer load. I am not stuck on the light load just trying stuff.

I tried the 7828 that is actually what the last rounds were loaded with. I am going to try again tomorrow with a better rest.

I'd just start at the lowest load you can find in the manuals, step up in .5 grain increments and watch the spread or contraction of your groups. You can see some interesting things and it really shows what kind of effects you can expect during load development. I went through the same thing. I actually was probably closer to 5" groups on some, then I found a sweet spot and the rest was history.

Just for s**ts and giggles, try a swift scirocco II .515BC and bonded core, an excellent bullet for any 7mm caliber!

I usually go one powder, and a few different bullets of same weight when developing.

The only 140 gr or 150 gr loads that I have used are in the Nosler Ballistic Tip . P.M. for load info if you haven't found a load yet?

I agree with the Scirocco 11 bullet idea I use them in a 7mm wsm, 7mm Rem mag, 7x57A.I. all shoot under 1 inch and are all in different makes and models of guns. I find the hardest part of using the Scirocco bullets is finding them at a suppliers to buy good luck.

You mention you are looking for a long distance deer round. I have never used the lighter 7 mm bullets in my rem mag because they don't come anywhere near the .625 BC of the Hornady 162 Grain Amax. For a long distance hunting round, over 300 yards, this bullet started at 3000 fps with 4831, is very hard to beat. Great wind bucking and about as flat as it gets. This would be my suggestion for a long distance hunting load.

I really like the 7mmRemMag.
These rifles are available cheap, probably because the published handloads are lawyered down worse than any other cartridge.

I have been killing mule deer with 162 gr Hornady SST with Re22, H4831sc, and H4350.

I have been killing mule deer with 180 gr Berger VLD with Re22.

All loads chronograph over 3000 fps with 26" barrel.

Any you ain't gonna do THAT with a lawyer in the loop.

mine likes 160 gr accubonds and 62 gr of RL 22. I have tried lots of loads and this one is far superior in my Ruger anyways.
