How easy is it to mount optics on this rifle?
......and does anyone have much experience on accuracy with this rifle?

Your experience would be very much appreciated :D

Just had a chance to put a few rounds downrange while doing a tactical course on Saturday.

With the irons, which were right on at about 25 yards, it was shooting bugholes with the American Eagle 55Gr.

Recoil, compared to less than punishing 7.62X39, was pleasantly
light.

It comes with the side receiver rail required for Soviet style scope mounts, but aftermarket top rails are available to fit the VZ/CZ family of rifles.

The trigger was pretty good, but the magazines, which are plastic, seem like they might be less durable than the regular 'indestructible' ones that come with the 7.62X39 guns.

Overall, I was favorably impressed, and would recommend them to someone thinking about a high quality, likely reliable, non-restricted 'black rifle' in .223, which fits nicely into the price niche between a Mini-14( don't get me started!), and the now obsolete AR 180-B.

I would budget (?dollars) for the forthcoming 'kit' that would allow the use of regular AR style magazines.

the AR mag adapter would be sweet! mine shot quite well with the mfs 55gr with the open sights. My question as well would be where I can buy a mount for the base on the side of the reciever??

We have just received a few scope mounts, see picture below. We don’t have a CSA rifle left in house to offer it to but I believe it will place the scope over the bore axis. Mount appears to be well made and has a sturdy case deflector included. Scope rail is approx 4.25 inches long .

CSA Scope Mount Price Confirmation::

First a few technical details, I quote from CSA: “ Those USD 50 mounts will have either no shell deflectors and ejected cases will be hitting the scopes and possibly damaging them (that with high mounts) or will be knocking cases back into the receivers (low mounts). Our mount is made and tuned specifically for vz. 58. I am sure some people will go and buy 50$ ones, but they will soon find out that it´s not that easy. Mounts that Belorussians sell in Europe, US and Canada are either too low to allow reliable ejection with the shell deflector or too high to look good. They sell them on average for USD 30 / pc + shipping. My costs incl. shipping, duty and all is around USD 35 (see an invoice from Belarus). It was more before when I was buying just 30 pcs at a time. Shell deflector and the screw are around USD 1. USD 6 is there to cover the labour of my guys who have to disassemble them all, cut them up and put them together again with shell deflector. I think those USD 6 hardly cover the labour. Moreover, one out of ten or twenty mounts are so s**tty, that we can´t even fix them and send them to you. That waste adds another costs.”

Any way, you the customer, have the option of what mount you purchase and where you purchase it from, as we are list them as an optional extra, rather than raise the price of the rifle and include them. Please remember that our mounts are also covered by the “Wolverine Warranty”.

We have been able to lower the price slightly.

New price is $85.00 Part # CSA-SM-001 These are in stock.

They look nice and I liked the one I handled and seeing how I want an unrestricted .223 and don't own a red rifle this is a winner...

Expect a range report when I buy one...

Actually there was supposed to be 1 already done by some one on this board awarded by Mr Wolverine but I have yet to see it.
As for the bayonets Mr Wolverine & also johnone should have these also for sale.
Furthee more there all lotz of scope mounting options for this rifle & also some yet to be release. Please check the top of the fourm as there should be a sticky there called "VZ/CZ858: Optics, sights & mounts." with loads of info on whats currently out there.

If anyone is looking to purchase one in .223 right now, I saw one today at Target Sports. Nice looking rifle, but I found that a grip was too small for my hand, I would definitely put an aftermarket one. I also like the look of original metal magazines much more than the new plastic ones.

Does the .223 VZ not extract casings straight up like the 7.62? I've considered mounting a POSP on my 7.62 version, but would need some case deflector as I suspect spent casings would smack into the scope, likely causing scope damage and some stoppages due to cases being bounced back into the action.

after putting a posp on mine i had a hard time sighting the rifle in beyond a hundred yards.i never had a problem with stoppages due to anything let alone casings they sit high enough that it is not a factor after 600 rounds the one day my scope was no worse for wear.a 2x6 varible posp was nice but think i want something with a little more detail i will be putting the posp on my 858 as that was the cartridge it was designed for.

Mr. Wolverine. Is there any chance of getting one of these into the US? Also, are the magazines custom made for the CZ only?
