I just recieved my M14 yesterday, and now after inspecting it somewhat, I have a couple of quetions for you experts out there. First off, I don't need my factory sights because my gun came with a ARMS 18 mount and Bushnell 3200 10x scope, however if I ever did need to take off my scope in a emergency while hunting, I would like the sights to work properly. The rear Peep sight does not move Left or Right. When I rotate the knob, nothing happens. Are they pooched?

Second, I may take this gun hunting with me in a couple of week for deer, and what is the best way to make the front sling swivel (by the barrel) stop clanging and rattling? Do you guys just bang it down tighter, if its possible to do without damaging the rifle?

Heres some pics of my new rifle because threads without pics suck :

Ya, I have already put some black hockey tape on the metal sling swivel, but it still clangs in other places were I can't put tape.

I put a different sling on mine (Black Nylon with plastic buckles) and put a couple of broken off round toothpics inbetween the front sling swivel and the plate.....I had the peices about 3/4 inch long and poked them inside far enough till I couldnt see them.... doing that stopped all the rattles in mine ..

I have a forward rail optics configuration and looking forward to magpul's RSA release in a few days/weeks, check it out
Not a sling configuration you'll see everyday. Rear attachment will be on the S&J hardware AR15 furniture adaptor

or you could tighten loop that the sling swivel sits in- that's what we used to do on the originals- either in a vise or with a pair of vise grips- you want to shrink that channel so that the loop doesn't swing back and forth so easily, then add black electrical tape on the rivet side of the channel- when stabilised, it becomes almost silent- and then you add your nylon sling and PLASTIC buckels- i got black webbing from CAMPERS VILLAGE- 1.5 inches wide and about 6 feet long, b'c i like to string mine like an m60- it rests on my hips , and swivels up to shoot-as far as the aft sight goes, try loosening the little nut on the LEFT SIDE A LITTLE- it sounds like it's too tight - you can do this with your combo tool blade- you need to hold that nut while you turn the shaft on the opposite side with a screwdriver- it doesn't take much- a half turn should start it-

:agree: That's basically what I did, except with a new cheap camo sling from a CGN site sponsor.
