What is a good Choice in Optics for a PS90?

Hi all, Just bought a PS90 Tri Rail version form Questar, Just waiting on paperwork and shipping now G:

But I'm kinda new to the whole black rifle shooting scene thou and being that the PS90 is so different from what I've ever shot before, I'm really not sure what Optic to get for it.

I'd like to get something in a red dot, but other than "video game" experience I don't really know whats a good brand and specs.

Hopefully I can buy something relatively cheap as I'm kinda broke now. ;)

I'll post some pic's when I get it.

If you can afford it grab an Aimpoint Micro.

They are very small red-dots and ultra durable, with battery life that lasts 5-6 years depending on the switch position. on setting 8/12 it lasts 50,000 hours, and 8/12 is good for indoor and overcast shooting, 9 or 10 is good for normal daytime shooting.

They are quite expensive though, around 700-800 dollars depending on where you buy them. The H1 (non night vision compatible version) is a little bit less.

If your budget is less, Questar has a "Sig" made knockoff version that's just under 300 bucks, they are not too bad. I think Primary Arms has a 'clone' of the Micro thats pretty good quality (albeit chinese made) im not sure whom carries them up here though.

Some pics of the T1 Micro on my USC/UMP :D

These 2 pics has the current American Defense QR throw lever base on.

An older pic with the factory Aimpoint base on it (sits a little lower than the ADM base shown in the 2 above pics)

I have had both a cheapo tufforce (basically a cheap copy of aimpoint I believe) and an EOtech mounted.

Eotech is very close in height to the Tuff, which is a fairly low optic.

Either way, you will be over 4" above the bore, so you will need to know what you are doing past 100 meters and below 50 with regard to bullet drop.

Eotech is far better in my opinion, as it is far more rugged, smooth, and just overall suits the shape of the firearm better.

I have a fake supressor on it now, so that long barrel is hidden.

My first choice would be the original Ring sight that came standard on the P90's - Black reticule, not the white. But since that's not an option on the railed gun, I'd throw on the SPARC... Great little sight for the price... Sits low on the gun, and comes with a 2x magnifier...

Take of the Flash Kill, and the magnifier, and the thing is very tiny... doesn't have much more footprint than a loonie...

The Eotech seems to work with the 3railed version. It doesn't however work well with the Standard one rail version since it sits too high. The lines on the standard don't look as good with the Eotech either.

I don't like the look of the aimpoint on the PS90. I just don't think it suits the firearm.

I have a standard and I think I'll be looking at a Burris Fastfire for it. They sit very low and are decent quality. Not the top end stuff, but still very good.

If you want to go with a magnified scope. I put a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x that I had in low quick release Leupold rings on mine. Seems to be a very good match for this firearm if you want magnification. Or even if you're just doing ammo testing to see which is the most accurate out of your firearm.

Mild curiosity, can you not get the original P90 carry handle optic for it? Because that would be all original and super ###y and such.

 Holly krap I never thought I would get this many replies!

I must admit I do love the eotech but the price on the Vortex makes it pretty hard to go wrong with.

Thanks Very much all. :D

I mentioned the Vortex due to the original post mentioned cost was a factor.

If money is less of a concern, then the Aimpoint Micro is what I would get, hands down.

I personally run an eotech xps "opmod" and love it, but the aimpoint is superior in some respects...basically a personal preference.

Do not, however, pay more than $30 for the sig red dot. It came with my 556 Classic. It's junk. The point of aim moves around an absurd amount if the dot isn't perfectly centered, and the whole build quality is really poor compared to pro-quality optics. Feels like it's made by NCStar or something. Sig is selling new 556 rifles with that dot sight for $970USD, so it's basically a free throw-in for them.

What are you doing with the gun? If you just want to blast cans at the range, get something cheaper (but decent) and spend money on ammo instead.

This is the one I'm going with on my PS90 when it's available next year (Hera CQS). Flip-up red dot reflex with a 35mm diameter lens in 4MOA.

now THIS is interesting!

Looks like a double lens type system, and if you drop the gun it'll just want to fold down, not damage the lens. very cool, wonder how much it'll cost (all the HERA stuff is an arm and a leg)

Blaxun carries (and can order) most things from Hera I believe. He's the man to ask if you are truely interested.

I'd have to read into it a lot more before I actually got one, for right now my T1 Micro is gonna sit on my USC/UMP conversion :p

If this thing is on the same quality level as the usual HERA stuff, then I might think about grabbin one :D
