7mm WSM vs. 7mm RSAUM

From my testing and measuring..the 7WSM will not work with high B.C bullets in a SA . Way to much of the bullet is seated to function as a repeater..
Is there anyone with first hand knowledge with high B.C bullets..with a SA..that could chime in??
I may have to go with a LA..and that would knid of defeat the purpose for me..

I agree, but if I had one built it would be a 7mm WSM on a longer action therefore you could seat bullets like the Bergers out to the lands and still have them function through the magazine.

I shoot 270 WSM with 165gr VLD in a Remington 700 SA and it works fine but the cartridge O.A.L. is more than 3" ...

To answer your main question: 7mm-300WSM has set 1000 yards benchrest records with Berger 180gr VLD and the British team blew away the other team with this cartridge.

My only issue is barrel life and I might get a 300WSM barrel for my rifle since F-Class competitions have been won with 300WSM barrels having fired more than 2000 rounds. This might sound cheap but many 6.5-284 have switched to 284 because of barrel life alone and many 7WSM shooters think of moving to 300WSM for the same reason.

It seems that 300WSM has extraordinary barrel life, it can only be because of the case design but nobody know why.

Thanks for all the relplies.

I went with a 7mm WSM on a Rem 700 short action. No issues with OAL and keeping it a repeater. Just had to find the right bottom metal and detachable mag system.

Loading Berger 180gn Hybrids within 0.010" of the lands.

I'll just list a few details here.

- Rem 700 stainless short action from a .300WSM.
- McMillan A5 from JW Precision
- Broughton 5C, 7.1 contour, and 1 in 9 twist, from JW Precision
- Badger Thruster brake, from Wolverine Supplies
- Nightforce NXS, rail, and rings from Hirsch Precision
- Seekins WSM Detachable Mag System
- Timney trigger
- All the metal was finished in KG Gunkote Mil Spec OD Green.

It was all put together by Casey at Tactical Ordnance.

Very nice work!

British team

As far as I was informed it was the 7mm RSAUM cal. that the Brits where using that took all the gold?
Cheers,
JK
