Is there any non-restricted rifle that is shorter than a handgun caliber 16" barrel lever gun? (Must be centerfire).

A Ruger compact is 35.5" overall and a Ruger No.1 International (20" barrel) is 36.5" overalll. IIRC the 16" lever actions are around 35".

94 Trapper 30-30 is 34" so a Pistol caliber one should be shorter.

Don't know the answer.....Tavor??? I know the 18.5, but don't know how long/short they are.

Are you sure the Trapper is that short? The Marlin 336Y Spikehorn was 34" and that was with a shortened length of pull (12.5").

In my mind the Ruger No.1s are great for overall length. If you shortened the length of pull to 12.5", like on the Ruger Compact, on an RSI it would be the same length - 35.5". Yet it still has a 20" barrel and is available in some very fine chamberings - .270, 7x57 and .30-06.

My 44 magnum Winchester Trapper is exactly the same length overall. I strongly suspect the M94 357 Trapper is of the same length too.

Yep, if you want a shorter Winchester go to the 1892 models (or a Rossi knockoff).
Incidentally they are way easier to cycle without having to cam the whole bottom of the action out.
In my opinion the 1894 made a poor pistol caliber platform. Unless of course it's a Marlin 1894.
Which was my pick although it's action isn't that much shorter than a Winchester '94.

Inquire about special ordering one from the manufacturer with barrel built (not cut) to your specs. Not sure if they would help you out, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Thing is with Canadian law that they cannot be ALTERED to less than 18.5" (or corresponding millimetres).

I myself have both a Ruger Frontier (7mm-08) and a Guide Gun. Most of my levers are carbines or "short rifles". I *HEART* short long guns. :D
