Shortest non-restricted rifle/carbine?

I measuredmy t/c encore with a 15"(45-70) barrel overall length would be 29.5". With my 18.5" 375hh brl my overall length is 33". This should be near the shortest non restricted rifle.

there is a rossi single shot with an AOL of 23", non-restricted. One of the cgn sponsor ( I don't remember exactly wich one) was selling them a couple of months ago

I have read and heard about a bunch of ~16" barreled 45-70 marlins on the marlin and cast boolits forums.

I have never seen one here and the 18" guide gun is pretty small for it's function.

Marlin made a run for Davidson's, stainless and 16" bbl. I believe. Hard to find even in the US. I don't think any ever made it to Canada. Around 500 total produced.

The rossi shotgun with the pistol grip? I think the RCMP is looking at that one right now and want to classify it as a handgun....

Here's a short one if you don't want a butt stock,:D

I don't know anymore...... just over 26inches is a safe bet though.

I've got a stock on that rifle and was playing with an adapter to use 870 stocks on the 7600.

It's also a bit over 27" if you look at the tape....

It would be hard to get shorter than a breakaction type of rifle with short bbls - with a single shot or a double.
As was stated, a TC would likely be the most compact with a decent bbl length as the action length is so minor.

A couple of the limited edition 45/70 rifles made for Davidsons did make it to Canada. I imported two of them. One to go everywhere with me on the trapline and the other one will be a safe queen for now. I had to get a new FRT number to register them so I think they were the first in Canada but don't know if anybody else brought any in. Jim

Very nice. All it needs is a larger hoop and you're styling and profiling!

I agree with the large loop comment!

WOW! That is nice looking and I'll bet very easy and handy to carry in the bush.
Hmmmm....would anyone be importing any more of them?

Don't you need 24 or 26 OAL to be unrestricted?

It can have an OAL of less than 26" and stay non-restricted if it doesn't use telescoping or folding stock (or otherwise), is not semi-auto with a less than 18.5 " barrel, and if it's not a handgun

“restricted firearm” means

(a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,

(b) a firearm that

(i) is not a prohibited firearm,

(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and

(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,

(c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or

(d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm;

“handgun”

« arme de poing »

“handgun” means a firearm that is designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand, whether or not it has been redesigned or subsequently altered to be aimed and fired by the action of both hands;

The Rossi pistol grip single shot is not designed to be discharged with one hand. It's ridiculous to state that it's a handgun.
