So here it is...
I have spent the last month putting together a 1986 suzuki samurai truck conversion. Swapped the motor/suspension, pretty much everything. Today was its trial bush run.
I wake up early, thinking that I might as well take the gun out too, and see if i can find anything. In the end I just want to rattle the #### outta the truck and re-tighten all of the bolts when i get home.
I am very lucky, I have a logging road about 2km from my house, and huntable land about 2km past that. So i depart, me, samurai, my 358, knife and binos.
About an hour later, I see a small mule buck crossing a sidehill at about 200m. I watch, deciding whether to shoot or wait for something bigger, I then see a nice 4x3 about 20m ahead of it.
I take my shot, and it drops. Hit it in the neck. I pack up my rifle, and knife, and start walking. After about 2 hours, I manage to get the deer out of the bush and into the truck. It was a very long 2 hours of dragging because the only way back was about 400m to the truck. I swore many times about how i should have taken the smaller one.
I haul my deer home, country music on the radio, and a huge smile on my face. I call up my hunting buddy, and he comes over to examine the beast.
I should include, I live in a small rural BC community, where I had to move for work. I am from the city, and have grown to love hunting with the help of friends here. My lot is in a subdivision and 1/3 of an acre in size. It is treed, and 6 foot fenced, with the majority of it out of view.
I hang it under the deck, skin it and am walking to the garage to turn the hose on when I hear from a neighbouring yard "you should be ashamed for slauhtering bambi". I didnt quite hear it or believe it at first so i shouted "pardon me?" She repeats herself. I am confused as my response was with a chuckle "your not serious are you". She quickly advises me that she is, and how I am really a horrible person.
I then ask her if she eats meat, because if coming from a vegetarian, then even though i dont agree with the point, i can respect her argument. She tells me that yes she does eat meat. I am now smiling, knowing exactly where i am going to take this, so i ask her if she knows where meat comes from. She stutters and stops, and really cant come up with anything. She then had very little to say other than, how she doesnt have to do that to animals and i'm still an aweful person.
I tell her that she pays more for meat than I do and I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I wash the hair off the deer, the whole time she is standing on her deck just to give me that 5 second glare in the one part of my yard she can see me in as i walk back and forth.
