.22LR mags for 1911

I can speak to the Kimber magazines. They are polymer, (and therefore) inexpensive, and they are reliable. Coming from Brownells, there is also a your 100% satisfaction - forever - guarantee.

Recommended.

The STI kit is very nice. Works great. The only thing I don't really like about it is that only the back section of the slide actually moves... In other words it loosk like a 1911 but functions more like a Browning BuckMark. The mags are fine, polymer, decent quality, no complaints.

But honestly, IMO, forget about a conversion kit and buy a GSG .22 1911. A nice full size, fully functioning purpose built .22 1911 with full size metal mags that fit perfectly into 1911 mag pouches. And it is actually cheaper than either the STI or Kimber conversion kits. You really can't go wrong with it. And other than the slide, all of the parts are compatible with standard 1911 parts so you can dress it up any way you like.

100% agree go with the GSG

I love mine. I actually sold an STI conversion kit to buy it, and I couldn't be happier with it.

+1 on the GSG 1911.

While I'm certainly keeping my Colt .22 conversion unit I'm also thinking about picking up a second GSG 1911. It's kinda what 'Hungry' says about the Norc NP-29.... "Don't buy one, buy two!"

Well if they work in my pistol, it would be a solution to a problem.
Colt Ace mags work fine for me although hard to find, and usually pricey.:p

I suppose I could get one and see for myself.:)

Now to find a source.

So, this post got me to thinking..... can GSG 1911 .22lr mags be used with a real factory Colt .22 conversion unit [given tha real Colt .22 conversion unit mags are scarce and when found, usually expensive].

Here are GSG 1911
and Colt .22lr conversion
mags:

Note the Colt .22lr mag follower is dished & sits forward at the front top of mag body compared to the GSG 1911 .22lr mag follower, which is flat on top.

How a GSG .22lr mag sits in a GSG 1911 pistol:

I tried the GSG 1911 .22lr magazine in my 1911A1 frame that I use with my Colt .22lr conversion unit. The frame is a Springfield Armoury parkerized GI 1911A1 frame that I completed with my own parts. The slide stop is a Colt #2 which is correct for use with the Colt .22lr conversion unit. I noted that with the GSG 1911 .22lr mag inserted empty, when the slide is drawn back, the slide locks back on the Colt slide stop. The magazine fits well & drops free when the mag button is depressed [as it does with a Colt mag].

Function:

I haven't been able to get to the range to test for "function" yet. I do know that my Colt .22lr conversion unit functions flawlessly. I also note that my GSG 1911 .22lr also functions flawlessly. It remains to be seen if I can get the GSG 1911 .22lr mags to work in the Colt .22lr conversion unit, but from what I see so far, it looks promising.

More to follow....
