Milsurp Horror

:D nothing unusual about that, there were a few US Army halftracks that were smuggled back. If you know how the system works then you can use the system ;) of if you know someone that knows how the system works and you can pay them off ;) ;) ;) your good to go :D

i recall quite the kerfuffel several years ago with american helicopters being sold surplus in parts, they were supposed to be "deactivated" by destroying a major part, but the several shops that did it were not on the same page as far as which part to destroy

Guy at a local scrapyard says they ran the gas saw through a couple of Enfield snipers for the Mounties a few years back. Complete in the cases too.

That was AWESOME!! The individual had built 2 or 3 completely functioning Bell AH-1 Cobra's (right down to the miniguns and Rocket pods) from the surplus parts he picked up all over the States. I remember the interview with the Gent when he told the interviewer how a friend taught him to fly it, and how he used it hunt coyotes that were harrassing his livestock. He even had a barn full of spare parts for them. LOL

You would be really horrified to know how many go in the front door of the police station for destruction and go right out the back door into a police officers vehicle. I have first hand knowledge of more than one case of this.

And I thank those LEO's for doing the right thing rather than the "correct" thing... may they have their place in Valhalla!

A RCMP officer from Newfoundland told me over there they sell the guns back to the public at a big sale every so often. Not sure if true and maybe only the rifles and shotguns?

On the other hand.......
My father got divorced a few years back and the police "temporarily" took all his guns. (A top grade Browning Olympic handgun in its case,A never fired M-44,top grade William Parkhurst shotgun(Great Grandpa's),Browning Model 10 shotgun, to name a few)
I learned of this months later and went with my Dad to claim them.......
I have never seen such disregard for other peoples property.
The stocks were all dented and the Remington's was actually broken and missing the pieces! The double barrel survived the police brutality as did the M44 for the most part but the Olympics case was damaged.(Not the condition I remember Dad keeping his guns in!)

Do they just toss em in a corner somewhere behind locked doors or what?!

In a perfect "liberal" utopia Only the Police, the Army, and the politicians "friends' will have those nasty guns.

OH, and of course the CRIMINALS:rolleyes:

Perhaps that is why Canada is the only country to leave the British common wealth with out a fight....we agreed to do everything they do, when we're good n' ready to.
PS after the gun ban it will be pointed knives.

Yes. Yes they do. We've all seen the news footage of cops carrying rifles and shotguns in bundles by the barrels and dropping them in the trunk of a car. But sometimes they play with 'em first.

Years ago, under the old system, we bought two C&B revolvers - Piettas both, an 1860 Army and an 1861 Navy. Under the old rules, one purchased the pistols, drove to the cop shop, told the officer what you'd bought, were issued a Permit to Transport listing the gun shop, the police station, and the times during which you could trasport the listed Restricteds from one to the other, made your appointed pick up and drop off, then waited for the green slip to come in the mail some 6 to 8 weeks later while the cops held your restricteds. Makes the current way of doing things a bit more appealing, no? We did the dance, went home, and twiddled our thumbs waiting for the paperwork.

The green slip came in the mail for both pistols some six weeks later. When we picked up our brand new revolvers, the nippples were all mashed flat, the cylinders were so far out of time that the locking knotches were ruined, and everyone down at the detachment was making "we got 'em like that" faces.

Dad raised hell with the local senior cop and the RCMP ended up buying us new revolvers. Never did find out who was playing Matt Dillon with our pistols, but from then on, every time we've had call to leave guns with cops, they get 'em in a locked case sans key.

More recently, the very same detachment gave the Blue Flame Treatment to a mint Navy Luger, brought in by a widow lady who had no idea what she had. I have no qualms about calling behaviour like this immoral, and I'm ashamed that police officers condone and enable this form of theft.

they always show the "gun amnesty haul" on the news here in calgary.
its unreal what you see some times. i believe last time they got a few bazookas, a missile of some sort, some crazy little uzi/mac-10 type stuff. and whats crazier... its 90% old ladies bringing it in! when an old woman brings in a mac-10 or bazooka, they dont ask "why do you have this?!? "oh, i found it under my grand sons bed".
wasn't a cop charged with hoarding these amnesty guns last time? good for him!!!!!!!!

would it be illegal to camp outside a cop shop with cash and a sign that says "paying cash for legal firearms" during the amnesty? ive thought about it!
seriously, could you do that without much trouble? obviously its frowned upon by some cops, but is it illegal?

Local farmers around here tell stories about 6 P51 Mustangs being stored in the auxiliary hangar of the emergency field at the Brandon airport. When the property was sold off in the 1960s, they brought out groundcrew, got the planes flyable again, then flew them out east.

TO BE SCRAPPED.

Don't know if its true, but a lot of the old boys have told me the story. The emergency hangar still stands, and is definitely big enough.

Just as I was leaving a man and a woman carrying a Boys Anti tank rifle her father had brought back from the war and recently died. I offered to buy it then and there from them, there was nothing I could say or do to convince them, they were turning it in because they thought they could be arrested for having those "army guns".

I have heard about such things over the years and somewhere along the lines some type of communication was broken down between the Father and kids.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn the same people couldn't wait to shuffle their Father off out of the way to an old folks home as well.

when I was in Bosnia in 94 we confiscated 70 or 80, 20mm WW II German cannons ,the boss had the boys run the apc's over them , over and over distroying them. O well . then we found WWII German aircraft engines the idiot distroyed them to.

At well over one million each on the collectors market that wasn't very bright.

When I was younger I went to my buddies house he had hanging on his wall an old enfield and a sten. No rust but the thing was in rough shape. Just this spring I went to his newly built house and nailed to his bar is that old sten, with probably the worst dewat job ever. I'm talking some guy taking a welder on the highest setting and "welding" the bold to the reciever, and by welding I'm saying cutting a rough L shaped cut with the welder and leaving slag all over half of the reciever. I just about cried. I'm going to try and get that enfield out of them though.

Have you ever noticed when the cops do a "bust' that they not only lay out the guns for pics, they REMOVE EVERYcartridge in the ammo boxes (including 22's) and lay them out in fancy patterns for the best "effect"
