It could probably be tig welded. It would be obvious though and the rifle would be very difficult to sell later.
I would return it to the dealer and ask for a refund though. If he is reputable, he will do the right thing. Then continue your quest.

whoever installed the barrel cracked the reciever

it cannot be saftly repaired welding will destroy the heat treating do you want your face near a few K psi.........??

the dealer should take it back

if not send me a pm I might take it off your hands as i need a barrel for a damged commerical carbing i have

There is no such thing as a "safe" rifle with a cracked receiver. You should be able to locate another receiver for $200. You would be doing the unknowing/unwary a great service by going with option #3.

Any "gunsmith" who would let that out of his shop might have screwed something else up that you haven't noticed yet. Personally I'd just return it for refund and eat the shipping, which is only gonna be about $25. Your dealer is being a bit skanky IMO. Sending you a rifle with a broken receiver and then making you pay for return shipping is horse####.

your chance of finding another non-res m1 with a good price are low. there are actions around as a lot were parted out to the USA. as the recievers were considered lend lease.

x2.

I think you should post who this dealer is so nobody buys stuff there anymore. If the dealer is welling to re-sell this clearly unsafe rifle, he's nobody I ever want to do business with.

You said in an earlier post the gunsmith that sold you the rifle plans to take it back and fire it to test it? Did he really say that? If he did, I suggest you return the said rifle as fast as possible, get a full refund and never deal with said gunsmith again. He is either incredibly stupid or he is incredibly crazy, maybe its both. His oversight on not catching a cracked receiver would make me, and I hope all of us very wary. Can you tell us his name or company by the way, to save our fellow CGN'ers any unpleasent surprises.Cheers.

that's right!!! x 2

You should ask for your money back before you ship it: this grazy Idiot is able to kill himself while shooting it, and you will never see your money again.

That is scary that he is willing to fire it and sell it if it shoots.......
I really would like to know who this dealer is because that is really unacceptable and very unsafe.

"...am I right?..." Absolutely. That receiver is toast. Possibly(and likely) rebarreled by somebody who didn't have a proper action wrench. You do have the 20" barrel though. That's all you need to de-evil another Carbine.
"...verify that it is "safe" and then resell it..." He's nuts.
