Im wanting to get my first ar15 and I just have some questions. Im looking for a flat toped rifle because im going to add optics as well as a full 20 inch barrel. What are my options ? Who makes a good ar15 ? Questar has a rock river "standard a4" rifle but its a custom order item. Im on a budget so im trying to keep the price as low as it can be, but I still want a good rifle.

You have to think ahead here. What kind of optics do you want to add? If you are thinking of a regular rifle scope that front sight block can get in the way and you will probably need a special scope base.

Stags are reasonably priced. I think you'll have a hard time finding A2 upper unless you're looking for it.

Never been a problem for all of the worlds armys that are running optics.
You can look right through the front sight base.
The Norinco is a decent choice except that from personal experience I guarantee you will have to buy new mags for it, because the ones it ships with are effing garbage. The rifle itself is awesome though, the stock upper shot really nicely and accurately with 3 different kinds of ammo I tried.
Its got a flat top receiver and has lots of awesome features that are so "awesome" that the US state dept won't allow any American rifles with those features to be exported to us.
However, its a 14.5 inch barrel. If you're hard up about 20", you'll need to buy a new upper, adding +$500 bucks to the price of the stock Norinco (about $775 after tax at Marstar). You might be able to sell your Norc upper, maybe. If you can live with 14.5" barrel you can get an AR for under $800 bucks, and that is really hard to beat.

I got a stag 20" from arms east about two months ago (my first AR as well) and it has all the features I wanted. 1 in 7 twist for heavier bullets, chrome lined government profile barrel and .223 wylde chamber (none of the features I mentioned are on the RRA AR you mentioned listed on questar) Also, comes with a lifetime warranty.
