Right-Handed Guns for Wrong-Handed People

So tell me...wasn't the Colt single action a lefty?
Us right handers have to switch to left to load and unload.
Not a Glock, but...?

that's right, pardon the pun- but the colt sa was invented for cavalry adn the SABRE was the primary- that was the reason for the left hand action- same deal for the 1911, save the safety

There was one company (Canadian) there were making a Left hand Pistol even the ejection was on the left side.....Personally I prefer the mag release one the left side and hit it with my trigger finger...I was a Master Open IPSC Shooter....so I don't think a R/H Pistol hurt performance...it's just a matter of getting a pistol (any) and practicing with the same equipment over and over ;)

actually, several companies have been down this road, and they're all out of business due to lack of intrest - ie a small fish in a BIG pond- randall immedatealy comes to mind- true lefty 1911, with even the mag slots on the "wrong " side, and they also made a "standard"version, but they were well overpriced, and MOST of us have learned or modded our right handed pistols to shoot left handed- all that's REALLY needed on the 1911 is a AMBI safety- everything else can be controlled by the index finger

Well the one company I'm talking about is still in Business...and I sure hope you were trying to teach me how to shoot a right hand pistol

As mentioned altready, Jeff Cooper always thought lefties had the advantage with the 1911 by operating the slide stop and mag release with the index finger.

Other than that a good ambi safety is all you need.

I wanted a 9mm and looked at everything out there, yup, I'm a lefty. At first I really liked the S&W M&P, then I tried a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow. It fit me like a glove. I think the mag release on the left is a great safety thing for a lefty, the trigger finger is definitely off the trigger to release the mag. It has an ambi safety and the slide lock is easy to apply while still holding the firearm in my left hand. So for me, its perfect.

We lefties are very smart, we spend our lives working around right hand power tools, right hand playing cards, home appliances, scissors. We are also better looking than you righties lol!!

Is your(left handed people) ability to cope with right handed tools attributed to your intelligence or merely out of necessity? Ones thinks its more out of necessity...

If you learn to shoot, there is no issue with the current setup/selection of firearms. The mag release is a non issue and use of the slide lock is a poor idea all around.

I can't paint for sh*t, it must be the brush...

The Bersa Thunder 9, 40 & 45 are ambidexterous pistols.
True lefties, that I know of were/are, Randall, Safari Arms, Dlask, Falcon Arms and Charter Arms in revolver. Of course the SAA Colts and their copies were lefties.

We also have more accidents, shorter lifespans and a MUCH greater chance of winding up in a mental institution...

(I also think there is a disproportionate amount of us on gunnutz...)

As to your question of "why not more left handed guns", it is simply a case of economics, if there was more equal demand (i.e. demand from lefties making up more than 10% or 15% of the market, OR increased demand from righties for left-handed guns...), then there would be incentive for manufacturers to supply more left handed guns.

I'm a lefty too and have never in my 60+ years ever fired a left handed firearm. Shooting from a bench is actually comfortable for me because I work the bolt with my right hand. I'm not sure of the exact stats but us lefties make up about 10% of the population. Small market for the manufacturers, I suppose.
One shooting discipline that pretty much demands a LH bolt action for a LH shooter is full bore target rifle.(TR) Otherwise using a RH bolt action for a lefty firer, one is constantly changing elbow position from the prone position off a shooting mat, every time one works the bolt. Not very conducive to good scores @900 meters with diopter peep sights.
