Hi all, just looking at some triggers for the Rem. 700. To me, the Jewell BR trigger seems like it would be good, except for a couple things I had questions about. First, one wesbite I was on said it was only for right handed actions, is this true (mines a lefty)? Second, is there a bolt stop on this trigger? If not, what's it like to cycle the action while target shooting with no bolt stop? Is it an annoyance, or is it even an issue?

Get the trigger that has the bolt release and the safey. Yes, the safety is on the right side of the bolt, but given the nature of F-Class shooting, safeties are not used anyway. The gun is either loaded and shooting, or it is unloaded with an empty chamber indicator.

I don't know, some Westerners are pretty darn nice.
Have a look at your receiver - left rear side. There might be a couple of threaded holes. If yes, you can just put in a real 'bolt' stop and then you can go with the BR variant and save a few rubles.
For the Rem, trigger options include Jewell, Timney and Shilen.

BR Variant can come with the proper bolt release as well as safety.

Yes, it is called the HVRTS w/ spring kit.
That is what I offer but if he didn't care for the extra dollars spent, the bolt in the side of the receiver will do the same thing.

No...the BR version also has the Release and Safety option.
I own both the BR with Bolt Release and the HVR and they are built differently internally.

Unless you are after a 2 oz trigger, I would only swap out your 700's trigger if there was something seriously wrong with it, and the $200 could be better used elsewhere. I've come across a couple of 700 triggers that simple refused to set up properly, but in my experience this is the exception to the rule. My target rifle had one of these triggers and I replaced it with a Jewel with the safety and bolt release, which at the time was what I believed to be the best trigger available. While I have been satisfied with it, it feels no better or worse than a properly adjusted Remington factory trigger, which is as it should be as a properly set up factory 700 trigger is pretty good for a trigger with a normal pull weight between 1.5 and 3 lbs.
The trigger currently on the Remmy that I have is the X-Mark. It just doesn't feel consistent or something. I adjusted the screw to make the pull lighter, and it seems ok for a while, then seems to get heavier after a while. Were you referring to the X-Mark triggers or the "normal" remington triggers?
1.5-3lbs is great for a hunting or tacticool rig, F-Class shooters generally shoot triggers that are < 1lb typically around the 3-8oz region.
Since he was asking about triggers specifically for F-Class shooting the triggers listed would be be his best choice.
I have 4 Jewell's and would not give them up for all the tea in china. I have seen (first hand) people having issues with the CG triggers (while on the line) so I personally would not put one on any of my rigs but YMMV.

Great link. The BR is certainly optimised to work at the lightest of pulls but it doesn't have the option to go heavier.
Something the HVR platform can - 2oz to 3.5lbs is a pretty wide range of useage.
Again, for F class, my personal tastes are around 6oz which is substantially heavier then some shooters want. No right or wrong, just whatever feels best to you. I tried some 1.5oz pulls and it was way too spooky for me.
the new X mark triggers are not designed to go under 2.5lbs (check with Rem as it might be 2lbs - self limited no matter what). Feedback on this trigger group has not been all that great AND there seems to be no safe way to drop below the factory settings.
I have had the pleasure of using several Rems from the 80's productions. Those trigger groups were sweet AND with some springs and proper adj, they can go very very light. Contact Guntech or other good smith and they can do some nice work on these trigger groups.
The only factory trigger group that will allow you to adjust under 2lbs is the Savage target accutrigger or some of the Euro set triggers. Everything else is pretty lawyer proof.

Regardless if he wants 2oz, 6oz or 8oz. He definitely doesn't need one that goes up to 3.5lbs just because it can go up to 3.5lbs.... Jewell makes a great product and I wouldn't hesitate to say that you will find more Jewell triggers on the line than Timney or Shilen for Rem products. Get the one you want and/or the best you can afford, it does make a difference, especially if you have good tactile sense.
