I just saw today...yeah Im slow..that Weatherby has an auto loader. Im looking for a budget priced autoloader for pheasant and was wondering if anyone has this SA-08 Upland and how do they like it? Any jams or problems?

No idea on the Weatherby, but I have the H&R Excell Auto 5, and it works awesome for a cheap gun. Never had a jam or misfire and it points just like an 870, and comes with 4 tubes. Cabelas has them, but the picture they have is of the old style. New style has a receiver shaped exactly the same as the 870. I'd recommend it to anyone.
 
I have one that I like very much, but that I am selling to finance another purchase. I have about 400 rounds through it at the trap range and a few more through it patterning turkey loads. Performs flawlessly so far. Check it out on the EE.
 
Weatherby autos have NEVER functioned reliably with various ammo. They have never sold well due to the unreliability of handling target ammo. The only reliable auto is a Beretta 390/391 serie auto loader. I shot a 390 for a test report. I did 25024 whitout ANY cleanning and only 20 failures to feed of which most were dues to not tapered hunting cartridges. That was in 2004. MY 391 Gold Optima Sporting has NEVER been cleanned since I got it, in 2004.

I suggest you read Layne Simpson's review in GunDog magazine. It's the one where he goes dove shooting in Argentina. Layne seems to think the SA-08 is a winner.
 
I do not have an sa-08 but the model right before it the sas and I can cycle any load with no issues. I did have a beretta 390 that would not cycle skeet loads.

"The only reliable auto is a Beretta 390/391 series auto loader". What a crock of Shyte I would be willing to bet there's a lot of Rem. 1100, Browning Silver and Gold "series" Not to mention the Win. Sx-1 owners out there that could prove that statement wrong.... What an uninformed post. :rolleyes:

I guess Benelli is just an overpriced upstart eh?;)

There are lots of reliable autoloaders, and any of them will eventually malfunction if not properly maintained, some just take longer than others.

I love Benelli's. But you are right they are "an overpriced upstart".
 
I played with the Benelli UL down in Minot ND a while back and all I can say is wow!! I was surprized how well it fit me, the weight and quality. I was also surprised at its sticker price up in Canada vs down in the US.
These Weatherbys look like a good bang for your buck :)

I have an Sa-08 , synthetic stock..12ga, 3" mag. Bought it after being invited to a Sask fall goose hunt. My hunting partners were using High end berettal extrem, a browning gold, Remington 1100's etc. I hadn't fired a shotgun at birds in 20yrs and was dropping as many as they were with the weatherby for a third or less of the cost of their guns!!!

the sa-08 weatherby performed flawlessly..(same gun is available from stoeger and others w/o the wby name) Turkish made
