Hey all, so good to see so many AR threads here right now, people are really enjoying these Norc M4's that have been going out the last couple of months. That includes me, but I have identified a few parts that need replacing, and in most cases, I don't know what to buy. Any tips from fellow AR shooters out there?

MAGS:
They're HORRIBLE, they don't stay level when feeding a round, causing all kinds of feeding problems and jams. Immediate replacement required, I'm going with LAR-15 mags. Ever AR shooter I have ever known loves Pmags. I've never used one, but they really look nice. So, i'm buying a couple LAR mags, should I bother getting a pmag just to check it out?

SLING
Theirs is crappy, I figured out how to use it from another thread here on CGN, but I don't like it. I want one of those like I see used by the US Military, it seems to attach through some hole in the back of the telescoping stock and is kind of a "patrol-sling", such that you can drop the rifle and it will hang in front of you, and one that is not annoying if the rifle is just being held in hand without using the sling. Can anyone recommend a nice sling for an AR?

REAR SIGHT:
Although not horrible, definitely usable, I thought the adjustment controls were stiff and hard to use. I want to take off the removable handle and use a high quality BUIS. I have always liked the look of Troy Industries, i am just about to try and find their products on Questar's website, but if anyone has a recommendation for a great BUIS that is not ultra expensive, let me know! I don't have any optics, so I will be using this not really as a backup, but as a main sight.

Rest of the rifle seems solid to me. There are very few places to buy .223 around here, and the prices are really bad except for one place selling Winchester 20 boxes for $12.99 which I think is acceptable, and although CFB Esquimalt is here, there is 0 availability for NATO 5.56. What do you think is a good price on .223 without buying in bulk?

I forgot to ask, this one is important to me too. Does anyone have a recommendation for a .22LR upper that is affordable, yet good? The gun shop here is selling them for $600, which i would never buy because thats basically almost the price of the whole Norc M4 rifle, and its just .22LR. I don't think its worth that. Thanks in advance for any help!

The best bang for your $ is the one that Marlin from Frontier Firearms is selling for $400 & it comes with almost everything except you lower and a rear sight.

Pmags are as nice as it can get, if you going for the full size mag look. but you are looking for utility, 10 round LAR are the only way to go, replace the USGI plates with Magpul Ranger Plates than you are good to go.

Slings are personal choice also depends on what you are planning to do with your AR, single point if you plan on running service rifle or taking courses, two point if you are planning on going on a long hike, since AR is limited to the inside of your club you won't be using a sling that much.

Troy sights are a good choice Fabsport currently have them in stock, however if you are not planning on using a scope, I would just stick with the factory handle, the adjustment might be stiff, but if you are only using it at your club, once you have zero it in you shouldn't have to touch it again. :)

as far as 22lr goes i really like the 22 conversion bolt carrier from questar. that way you dont need a dedicated upper. my works awsome in my norc.

Nice, i'll check it out. I saw some video a while ago talking about some charging handles..."tap charge" or something. I think the charging handle on the Norc is tolerable, but is also a part I would cite as could benefit from a replacement.

Kind of a noob question but these kits are just the bolt and bolt carrier, and a magazine right? You don't need to change the barrel out or anything do you? I know the calibers are close (.223 and .22) but I am not clear on whether that is tolerable and interchangeable between these two calibers.

yes, difference between the 2 calibers that is about the thickness of a single strand of human hair, so the .233 barrel is fine with .22lr, but I wouldn't be expecting matchgrade performance out of it.

Essentially the conversion kit is a "chamber sleeve" that will fill in the larger .223 chamber with a .22LR chamber, along with a new bolt and carrier.

My NORINCO set up is: .223 Phantom Flash Suppressor , MOE Hand Guard, MBUS rear sight, ASAP Ring(For Fast sling attachment), MOE stock, MOE grip, B.A.D(BOLT RELEASE), MAGPUL trigger guard,10 USGI mags and 10 LAR mags some 5 PMAGs, MS2 Sling, ACCU wedge(a red plastic piece in your lower receiver that makes the upper and lower tight),MOE Illumination Kit, MVG MOE Vertical Grip, Magpul PMAG Coupler, Magpul AFG, Black , saving some money for an ACOG or EOTECH (EVERYTHING IS BLACK), also planning to put low profile gas block later on when my Front sight bench block comes, as soon as I get time I’ll take a picture of it

Heh nice, pic should be great.

I'm finding that these rear sights are really expensive.... like wth. AR parts can be really expensive, but pointlessly, they are really small and look like the production of them cost $2, yet they are asking $200.

I have the MOE forestock and Hogue pistol grip. The only thing I plan on changing is the trigger, which is not to bad. I use the CMMG sub cal kit in mine, don't plan on shooting it with accuracy beyond 50m.

+1

I am not sure how well they work in the Norc's. But the conversion kit i have works really well. Takes about 10 seconds to convert. Cost's about 250.

if you can afford it it's always better in bulk though some dealers where I am were selling boxes of 20 for 10 or 11 bucks. A case of 500 doesn't even last that long with my AR I find.

Yeah I agree, i'd love to buy bulk but it is a bit pricey, and I don't shoot that often because its a 30 minute drive to the range on the highway and the ammo cost is too high. I'm seriously considering .22LR conversion, but I need to investigate how effectively you can train with this round at ranges of 100-200y without massive bullet drop and generally lame shooting.

Has anyone seen a 100 round drum in .22LR that works with an AR conversion?

Awwww lucky guys. At my range, if I want to shoot my ar in .223 I have to buy there own Frangible rounds. There $30 for 20 rounds...... I really need to invest on a .22 conversion

Its a trade off I think :) Where I am at, you need to drive 30 mins to get to the range and there are no indoor range options, its outdoor only. Actually I think there is one indoor range here, but i heard you have to be invited to join or something and the annual fees are like $1000 / year. No thanks.

I paid $700 for range membership for a year. I have to drive about 40 minutes to get there and still have to pay $30 for 20 rounds of .223. FML right. They banned gun ranges in Toronto so I have to go outside the city. Thats why my range is so far.
