I have searched both this forum, the precision rifles forum and used the "awesome" search feature...so, I apologize in advance if this has been posted previously.

What do you think of the Zel Custom .50 AR uppers? Anyone seen/tried one?

We could actually see some truth in the media if they had a picture of one...they could actually say "hi powered sniper rifle" when showing a shot of an AR in this guise.

That's pretty cool. The complete .50 with a night force 5.5-22x50 is only $4600. I wonder if the recoil would damage the lower. I would be up for a .338 LM if we could use our AR-15 lowers anywhere.

Even if the States Department allows the exportation of these, The effective range of these puppies won't justified their cost.

Think about the ammo cost ommfg.

At the gun shop here they had 1 .50 BMG round. The price was $26. For one.

These things are produced in the millions. I don't understand the rape and gouge that is going on for ammo in this country but its sad.

I'd like to get an idea for what the Canadian Forces pays per round for .223 and .50 BMG, just curious.

The biggest problem with a 50 BMG AR upper is the complete rifle is still restricted and thus can only be shot on an approved range. Very few ranges in Canada are templated for the 50 BMG.

ATRS has a custom lower that when mated to a modified AR .50BMG upper (which they also do) will allow the firearm to be registered as non restricted.

Does Norinco manufacture .50BMG? Even if it's underpowered crap, as long as you can reload the casings...

We looked into importing these in 338 LM. However, from the response we received on CGN, it didn't seem as though enough people were willing to fork over the $$$ for what would still be a restricted rifle.

What about the ATR solution presented above, then it would be non-restricted.

Concerning the .50 BMG, ammo cost wildly prohibitive. Can you comment at all why one of the most highly produced, highly used military rounds of the last 100 years is at least $10 PER SHOT. There has to be a way to get these at a better price. I'd be shocked if our military is spending 50c a round.

Sure. That would be a good solution. However, I suspect most people going this way would also buy the upper from ATR. So then there's no need for us to import the Zel Custom products.

Price is high because supply is limited. Supply is limited because anything 50 BMG cannot be exported from America.

An the NRCAN bureaucrats are doing their best to restrict import of ammunition to civilians... We should pressure the conservative to fire their ass and hire actual shooters at Natural Ressources...

Knowing the stupidity of the government, I wouldn't be surprised if the CF paid $50 /round for .50 BMG and $25 for 5.56
