Winchester lever value

I have an opportunity to buy a few guns from an old guy who is cleaning out One is a Winchester 30-30 lever. I cant remember the model but its pretty modern. What would be a good offer to buy it?

It is most likely a model 94. There is a huge gap right now between what people think these are worth. Some people are selling them for $350 and others $450 in the same condition. If it's pre 64 (serial number prior to 2 700 000) then I'd say $450 in excellent condition, $400 for good condition. Post 64 in excellent condition would bring $400, good condition $350. I wouldn't offer anybody less than $350 for a 94 in good condition.

Post 64 94 carbines are worth $300 maximum in my area. If they are 64 - 68 vintage $200, absolute junk.

Assuming 30/30 in standard carbine version:

Pre 64 avg condition $350 - A good deal would be $200-$300

Post 64 sub $300. A good deal would be $150

They can sell for higher, but they DO come up for cheaper. Any major wear or damages decrease value accordingly. They are good little guns.

I think area has a lot to do with it. I'm in Ontario and dealers are selling pre-64s in good condition for upwards of $450 and even post 64s for upwards of $400. But having said that, they go for way cheaper on EE all the time. In my opinion, there is a really wide range of what people are willing to pay for them right now. Mike_Webb raises a good point. If it's a 64-68 it's not worth near as much. The pre-64s and vintage 70s are in much higher demand.

ya haha I was just trying to get a general ballpark value, not a full blown appraisal.

Im gonna go and see if I can do a more through look at them, and take the serial down to get a year. What are the ranges for the 68-64 years?

I don't think there is a definite cut-off number for the really crappy ones but somewhere in the neighbourhood. Look for finish flaking off the receiver, a dead giveaway.

OK, Have the rifle in my lap, serial number is in the early 4000000 range. a few dings and scratches on the stock, with a little rust on the metal.

I offered 300 since Its honestly not in bad shape. Just a few specks of rust. Bore looks good, although I had to improvise with a shiny thing and a flashlight to see but the bore looks good.

300 is a good value for that gun.

If it is over 2,700,000 it is post 64, and starting a batch that are the lowest quality of any of the 94s. I don't know at what serial number (year) they started to improve them, but I think it was much later than 1968.
