Help with spring under buffer tube...

I recently installed a single point sling mount on my M4. I haven't taken the rifle to the range yet but it seems to function fine. I found it a little difficult not bending the tiny spring under the buffer tube spring.

It seems to be in fine. What does it do? Hold the rear disassembly pin from coming all the way out?...

BTW if anyone wants a tool for removing castle nut on the stock this one I bought from Princess Auto works great...

it holds the rear take down pin in poistion. be carefull there is a detent in front of the spring. dont lose it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured that's what it did. I did try to pull the pin all the way out and I couldn't so I should be good to go. I yanked on it pretty good and it wouldn't come out. I feel better now.

Is that how you took apart your stock & buffer tube? with the upper still installed? If so thats definitely the harder way of doing it...

I found that out just in time. I watched a youtube video and took the upper off so I could make sure I put it back together properly.

Thanks. Luckily I did have the rifle apart at that stage and assembled everything correctly.

Yeah the AR thing is definitely a learning curve. For future reference Brownells has every video you would need to learn complete dis-assembly and re-assembly of an AR. They also have tons of video on the installation of differant rails, and other accesories. Check it out.

If youve damaged the spring, it might still work. All it does is put some tension on the detent for your takedown pin. If youve lost the detent, apparently you can make one out of a small piece of coat hanger wire, sharpen one end slightly and supposively it works.
