New Leupold Canada Warranty

Sorry, the way it reads, if it's not imported through Korth, there is NO warranty. Doesn't matter if it was legally imported or not. The paragraph you are referring to is about USED scopes, not NEW ones bought from a dealer that is not authorized, (ie. a few gunnutz dealers.) even if that dealer imported it legally.

Short form:

1) A USED scope imported legally AND originally purchased prior to Nov.1 2010 will have warranty.

2) ANY scope purchased or that is manufactured after Nov.1 2010, that was not imported through Korth, will have NO warranty, imported legally or not.

Para. 1
Where does it specify this in the e-mail? All she states are the legal requirements for importing used scopes, which incidentally are the same as importing new scopes. If these new scopes were manufactured prior to Nov.1, how would they deny warranty? I'm sure there are dealers in the US who will have scopes on the shelves which were built prior to Nov.1 for quite some time yet. Will they ask for import papers?

Para. 2

It does not specify "purchased". Only scopes manufactured after Nov.1 will fall under the warranty denial.

Isn;t like the 3rd word purchased..??

See below....

Just to re-affirm this only pertains to scopes manufactured from Nov 1st 2010 – so anything pre-this date is not an issue. The only option at this moment to check Serial #’s on Optics you wish to purchase is to call Leupold USA and they can advise you quite efficiently the details associated to the scope. With regards to purchasing new vs used the only thing is to buy from a reputable person/dealer and similar to purchasing a vehicle if you do the homework first by confirming the Serial # and then the Import/Export if its in question.

Hope this answers all of your questions, feel free to contact us for more information.

Not sure if this means anything but I just ordered 2 Sightrons from the states about a month ago and they arrived problem free.

Did you and Sightron have permits? If not then the transaction was illegal in the eyes of the US DoS.

Also has nothign to do with the discussion of the new procedure for Leupold Warranty in Canada through Korth.

Bottom line, if you want to buy a used Leupold after Hallowe'en then you should get the serial number from the buyer and verify the status of the scope through Leupold USA either by phone or email. If you want to sell a used Leupold scope on the EE what you should do is either offer proof of purchase prior to November 1, 2010 (store receipt etc) or verify the serial number with Leupold and post a picture of the serial number in your ad so that prospective purchasers can do the same. To my mind this is no different tha posting a pic showing wear to the finish or ring marks. This is the "new normal" and it's not a bad idea on their part.

It's a minor inconvenience so deal with it. Maybe Leupold will get tired of gettign emailed out the backside about serial number verification and change their minds. Either way, stop whining about it.

Oh I was reading the quote..lol hahaha so if I bought a scope today not brought in from Korth I am okay..thats better..but ups**t creek after Halloween.

Partially correct. The important date to remember is the date of manufacture of the scope, not when you bought it.

In a nutshell, this is the way I read the response by Korth:

A Leupold scope manufactured on or after Nov. 1 which needs the warranty service supplied by Korth must have been imported into Canada by Korth.

What I'm unsure of is whether or not Leupold in Oregon would warranty a scope manufactured on or after Nov.1, which was legally imported by a Canadian, but not imported by Korth. In the e-mail it says the warranty is void.
Perhaps I'll try to contact Leupold tomorrow with that question.

Not a bad idea? Stop whining?

Korth sets the prices on all Leupold products in Canada and if you shop elsewhere you are denied warranty service.

Looks like socialism and communism are running more rampant in this country than I thought.

Wheat board, Autopac, endless crown corporations,.............the list goes on.

Okay why in your mind is alright..for a company the size of Leupold the right to deny warranty?..doesn't matter where it came from..it's a Leupold scope..send to the warranty depot closest for repairs and fix the god dam thing.
Its nothing more than Korth not wanting to fix leupold products they haven't made money on..and it's B.S if they want to be the repair facility and importer.
Stop whining..okay DAD..

If Leupold won't warranty every one of their products unconditionally - I've bought my last one. They make their money selling this product and consumers buy them partly because of the warranty. This is BS.

This is another case of profit from regulation. If Leupold Inc. lets Korth get away with this, I too have bought my last Leupold.

Also doesn't NAFTA say all must be equal??? If it's warranted in the US it must be in CA also?? Mark

Korth is the sole legal importer in Canada for Leupold. Every Leupold that is in the country legally comes through Korth's doors whether you buy it at Reliable Gun in Vancouver, Bass Pro, WSS, or Coastal Marine in Mount Pearl. Korth is the point of entry and distribution point for Leupold's scopes. It seems to me that Leupold wants to ensure that their customers deal with their exclusive importer and have a single point of contact when they have service or warranty issues. Rather than Leupold having to deal with people circumventing the guys that have put in the time to become the importer, Leupold is taking steps to protect the importer. No different than the major automakers did. If you don't like it, then buy something else. I doubt that enough guys will sell off their Leupolds or swear off purchasing Leupold in protest to make a blip on their radar.

Just emailed them.. Thanx Biguglyman

Copied..Not happy with the new warranty rules from KORTH/Leupold..I just bought my last Leupold..along with 1000s of other Canadians..
They already have a monopoly up here now they can tell us they won't repair our scopes if they didn't import them..not good

buy used, don't buy another new Leupold in the country, Korth has to honor the warranty on the used ones bougth before Nov1, 2010. I will never buy another New leupold anything in this country again, only used. Korth will not make a single cent of me with an attitude like they have. They do not deal fairly with all reaitailers give preferential treatment to some over others and are honestly a dealership who should lose the Leupold Import privelege. In fact I am going to make an effort to find junk leupolds to send in for warranty AS rumor would have it Korth sells to different retailers at significantly different prices, just a little inside info.... i don't like the kid, the dad was great. aimho

interesting...
Last time I checked the optics market was flooded with competition...
In retail, theres a saying - "perception is reality"
So now I percieve I may have an issue if I were to buy a new or used Leopold.
Seeing this is, as a consumer, my percieved reality I guess I just buy any one of a half dozen other brands that offer similar quality and features but without the percieved hassle.
