I have a few questions about the DA Grizzly 12.5. I want to get this shotgun to wear when I am working in the bush.
1- What is the overall length?
2- What is the exact weight?
3- Can it hold 4+1, 2.75" shells or 3" shells?
4- Has anyone seen a back scabbard or holster that I could wear on my back while I'm working, and remove the gun over my shoulder if I should need it?

In a perfect world, I think an ATC would be the way to go, but I guess I am a dreamer.

i sold my 12.5, so unfortunately i cant weigh it for you. it should be under 6lbs unloaded with an aftermarket short LOP stock and aluminum mag cap.

the mag tube is the standard 870 mag tube length. it has the express style spring retainer/detent, which you could remove and mod the gun to a Wingmaster style detent to give you another tiny bit of room in the mag.

you should not rely on factory 12.5" Grizzly weights: they are highly dependant on the factory stock, which is quite overbuilt and heavy (not always a bad thing, but for backpacking it is). you could cut quite a bit of the weight by installing an aftermarket stock/forend. you can see how much the factory buttstock affects the weight here:

why not get an 8.5"? it would clear a scabbard easier and is as small as you can go in a full stocked gun at just over min OAL if you install a short LOP stock.
check ebay for shotgun scabbards - there are several makes of MOLLE scabbards that can easily attach to the PALS webbing on the side of a 'tactical' style backpack. some also have a strap that lets you wear them on your back, although that seems less ideal.

What kind of bush work are you doing? Do you wear a cruisers vest at all? I do lots of bush work in BC and we wear the forestry style cruisers vests for the carrying capacity. The added bonus is the local supply store modifys the vests to include a scabbard. Installed behind the left or right shoulder they store the gun securely, allow for over the shoulder draw, and limit additional straps. i can get you a couple pics this weekend if this sounds like something that might work.

Gun holds 4+1 2 3/4 or 3'' no problem. Out of town right now so I cant provide a weight or length but MBP is def spot on about the excess weight of the factory stock and forend. Big pieces of solid plastic, even the wood stuff i have seen is lighter.

If you do go this route, watch out for the hogue forends. I really love mine for feel and grip but the 'sticky' rubber does not go well with the scabbard in my cruiser vest or my voodoo tactical molle scabbard on my backpack. It creates so much friction that you cant withdraw the gun when there is even slight pressure on it. The short LOP Hogue stocks are magic though, well worth the investment.

Anyway hope that helps.

Thanks for the link, it was very informative.

Thanks for the info. I do my own tree marking on my property and also cut about 50 cords of firewood a year. I don't wear a cruiser vest but am interested in seeing a pic of one with the scabbard. I am looking for something I can wear while I work and doesn't get in the way.

I am also waiting for my Griz 12.5" and I've been looking at these houge addons, thinking it would not be worth the coin to buy the stock. I'm interested in knowing what the length difference would be and why you swear by it.

Also, anyone know where to find a flashlight forend? Or do I need to buy the seperate rail?

This is one option, a little on the expensive side but it is good quality.

Or a railed forend like this

ht tp://www.zahal.org/products/remington-870-polymer-three-rail-handguards?path_parent=153455

and your choice of flashlight, a Fenix TK11 is a good one, in this

ht tp://www.zahal.org/products/offset-flashligt-mount-1-inch?path_parent=153449

or this mount

ht tp://www.zahal.org/products/flashlight-picatiny-rail-adaptor-1-inch?path_parent=153449

Good quality stuff at affordable prices and free shipping.

Wow that is one amazing link! That sh!t aint cheap but sure fits the bill. Maybe when I win the lottery Ill spend $400 on a 870 conversion kit for my $300 shotgun lol!

Are you sure its 100% legal to import this stuff from Isreal?

What's the name of that survey/geological supply store on the North side of First Avenue, as you're heading towards Main Street, along the Skytrain route in Vancouver?

They might have something similar there too.
I think that's the one. It has been years since I was there.

LOL! After I posted my question, I looked them up and Neville Crosby IS the place I was thinking of.

It has been a long time since I've been there too.

But they did have the best stuff and prices.

I guess I got it wrong though, apparently First Ave. becomes Terminal Ave. when it crosses Clark Dr.
