Just wondering what type of accuracy you can expect with a red dot on a short barrel AR15 (.223) or Swiss CQB?

I have a cheap $50 tasco on my SR22 and I can hit targets from 10 feet to 175 feet just by placing the red dot on the target and not holding off the target at all.

Can I expect the same time of accuracy with a red dot on my .223?

up to the shooter, I once shot 1/2 group at 100M with my aimpoint on a CQB, LARGE BLACK X is what is what I was shooting at and all 5 shots grouped nicely. You must have good gear though, not sure little tasco will do what you are asking of it. was using hornady match 75 gr. ammo

hey, yeah I am interested in the aimpoint H1/T1 mostly - the tasco is perfect for my SR22 but wouldn't consider it on my CQB.

Good ammo, red dot, anything within 100m should be fairly accurate right?

Mind you I don't bench rest my gun so I'm never really achieving the most accurate shots.

Wish I could shoot steel, reactive 4"-6"-8" plates would be a ton of fun to plink off

It really depends on the size of the dot on the recticle. I prefer 2 MOA for 100M or even 200 but its still tough. 4 MOA is almost inpossible for me to shoot far.

This is why I prefer EOTECh and the 1 MOA dot. The AIMPOINT's 2 MOA dot is not terrible, but the 4 MOA is useless for anything past 50m other than tactical stuff. If I go to the range and want to shoot off a bench I cant deal with 6 inch groups.

I've never had any issues hitting out to 300m with my 4moa Aimpoint on my AR. As long as you know your rifle/ammo combo you're good to go.

one problem for me is that it seems very "crowded" when looking through the red dot optic - rear drum + front hooded sight + optic case and its very hard to focus for me right now.

wonder if I can remove my front sight hood & post?

That.

If you want to shoot groups off a bench, you've made the wrong chioce by buying an rds.

Good shooters have no problem with rds out to effective ranges.

Nice - good stuff because I ended up buying a bushnell trs-25

hoping it can shoot minute-of-head shot at anything under 100m off hand

Same thing with my TRS-25 on the low NEA rail.

Keep both eyes open and concentrate on the dot and the target. The rest of the clutter will become less significant.

If you can't do that, it's not the gear. ;)

As long as it can hold zero, the mechanical accuracy of the gun and optic will be more than enough for MOH for anything under 100m.

The offhand part is up to you. :D

is there anywhere I can go to shoot steel poppers/swingers with my .223? I shot steel for the first time today and it's way more fun than paper for me

Danimal, My 6 year old hits 48 out of 50 times on a 1 ft plate at 100m with a aimpoint 223. a 6 inch plate at 50 m never gets missed by him never. They are great optics. Yes I am now into reloading. I have 6000 empty brass, ouch

thanks I'm hoping to get out to the range today but I'll have to see since I need to do some other stuff !

I think for the money I won't complain, this TRS-25 looks just like a micro, has a solid bright dot, and fits on my cqb without any additional mods or mounts so it will be perfect for me if it works as advertised.

Q about the optic though - if I have a low cheekweld the red dot currently sits on my front sight post perfectly, which should shoot as my irons shoot. But, is it possible to not have a perfect cheek weld and the red dot is not absolute co-witnessed and still hit where the red dot is pointed?

My understand with the Eotechs and aimpoints are that they allow this, but I haven't shot it yet and don't have a lot of experience with them

If the dot is zeroed it doesn't matter where your head is, or where the dot appears relative to the sights. That's the whole point of the RDS.

Do you usually line up your dot and your sights?

With my SR22 I can fold down my iron sights so I don't see them in my FOV and I rely solely on the RDS

When on my CQB the iron sights are not able to quickly fold down and out of the way so it's very strange. If I do not have a low enough cheek weld the red dot is floating above the iron sight near the hooded O of the front sight

Try it out first. Like I said, just concentrate on the dot and target and keep both eyes open.

If it's still no good, you could put a QD riser under the optic.
