2 3/4" buckshot vs 3" buckshot

OO buck is good in a couple of mine,but, I had to pattern with all that was around to find what works. It does no good to shoot lots of pellets that don't hit. Buy lots & shoot what your gun likes.

Iv seen a buddy take down a deer at 30 yards with 00 buck shot. We were out hunting on his farm. The deer is looking/facing us and he took the shot and it did a complete cart wheel, head over heels, lights out. I have never shot buckshot at game but since that experience I would give it a try. The B.C. Regs state a shotgun must have a bore size of 20 gauge or larger and use shells of shot size No. 1 Buck or larger to hunt black bear, deer, bobcat, cougar, lynx, wolf, and wolverine. Obviously their are better choices to use on these game but if its legal for the govt, legal enough for me.

Now if your gun is chambered in 3'' than you get to choose, buy a box of both..shoot them, and keep buying the one with the better pattern at your comfortable distance.

I shot a deer standing at 20 yards with a 10 guage with 000 buck and it lifted the deer off his feet and threw him sideways through the air about six feet, where he skidded to a stop, dead. .

Are you sure you didn't mean gopher? What happenned to you? Physics being what they are, you'd have done some flying yourself if a deer got tossed 6'.

Use a slug - they work. I was eating a chop a couple years ago and bit down onto a piece of buckshot - not from me - I was using slugs.

I have watched many deer jump when shot. I do not believe it is uncommon. I once witnessed a deer take a 308 to the side of it's head, and it proceeded to jump onto it's back. That had nothing to do with the energy transfer of the projectile, and everything to do with the deer's muscle reaction.

I'm certain everyone here knows about the "equal and opposite reaction" law. Physics being what they are...

I like #1 buck best as it was .30 caliber balls and 2 3/4 " was fine.Use 3" if your gun will take them.I took deer anywhere from 20 yards to 50 running full tilt to standing and never shot one twice.All dead either bang flops or within 20ft of hit..........most people that bad mouth it never used it or if they did used wrong choke or size shot........Harold

i just thought i would add my two cents

I shot a Deer (with my 30-06) on saturday and when i skined it I found 3 holes from buckshot pellets which had ruined a #### load of meat without wounding this deer...so im left scratching my head wondering why anyone would use this stuff in the first place.....

With all due respect, I'm constantly left scratching my head wondering why people can never find anything better to do than criticize the stuff. Is it great for all purposes? No. Does it have a use? Yes. In fact, some places REQUIRE buckshot.

It gets a little nonsensical. Every time someone mentions the word buckshot online, it's almost immediately followed by someone saying "slugs are better." I know. So do most other people. I've shot two bears with slugs and they were both DRT. But due to regulations or other constraints, some people can and do use buckshot and don't need to be constantly informed of the existence of slugs.
