I just picked up a Russian SKS, and a Crate of Ammo. How come everyone keeps the secret of how much fun the SKS is to shoot to themselves?

I asked a couple of friends about theirs, and the response I got was "they are a great gun to send a lot of ammo down range with inaccurately." But they never told me how much fun they are to do it with!

This thing is way too much fun to shoot. I took my dad and my SKS out and the two of us had a great time. Shot 300 round through it and didn't stop smiling the whole time!

This is my first rifle that is not air powered. I must say I am very happy with my purchase. Glad I didn't got for the 10/22:p

Again, why is the enjoyment that is an SKS kept such a secret?

It's a secret because eventually there will be no surplus ammo available and we want to keep what's available for ourselves.

get 10 AR's while your at it.

Funny story, back out west I went to the range with an SKS, Swiss arms and a colt AR with a buddy. It was his first time shooting any of those rifles, at the end of the session I asked him which one he liked better. He replied: Well I actually like shooting the SKS more than the other two just out of sheer fun!

:D

On a side note, my marstar SKS just arrived here. I shipped it back a few days ago, I am happy!

get a 10/22, 12g and a .308 then you got it all covered!

I got the 12g covered (870 Wingmaster TX)

I'm still gonna get a 10/22 just because everyone needs one, but I'm glad I picked up the SKS first!

As for the .308 I've got my eye on a Springfield M1A at some point.

and of course an AR, and a whole bunch of other stuff because guns are like potato chips, you can't have just one!

Looks nice! How can you not have fun with an SKS? :D

Many care so much about looks that they will never feel this pleasure!

I think I have shot about three crates of ammo to date with not one failure that I can remember. I have mostly used my Norinco SKS not my Russian and still had this kind of reliability. I recently bought some tapco removable mags for my Norinco SKS that has a Tapco stock on it. I need to try them out as I haven't yet.

The one in the pics is Chrome Lined.

I had done a bunch of reading and research on them, so I had a good idea what to look for. The only thing I didn't know about was the Black Bayonet, but I'm good with it because it looks cool to me, and at the end of the day that's what matter!

Sure. I got a 5 pak from one of my favourite dealers Fabsports. In a Tapco stock they click in and out nicely. If you put them in a Russian laminate or wood you need to sand a bit....

Here's one of the mags in my SKS. I also bought some of the newest generation Tapco Mags for my M4 from Fabsports. Both mags are built like tanks. The M4 mags are on the left, the SKS ones are on the right....
