The Secret of the SKS

Sure. I got a 5 pak from one of my favourite dealers Fabsports. In a Tapco stock they click in and out nicely. If you put them in a Russian laminate or wood you need to sand a bit....

Here's one of the mags in my SKS. I also bought some of the newest generation Tapco Mags for my M4 from Fabsports. Both mags are built like tanks. The M4 mags are on the left, the SKS ones are on the right....

Here is the information on the mags from Fabsports....

It's a secret because eventually there will be no surplus ammo available and we want to keep what's available for ourselves.

That's pretty much it. Also, some are against communist weapons and bash them no matter what. Ans there are gun snobs out there with $6000 HK carbines and other high $$ guns that can't hit the broad side of a barn and get owned by SKS shooters at 100 yards. Think they will give the gun any open respect?

They are awesome little guns, probably the best bang for the buck in fireams. And we are lucky here - we can get excellent Russians that Americans would pay over $400 for in a heartbeat for $160.

Yes they are fun guns to shoot. Their best feature has to be the price of the ammo they run. It's nice to be able to crack open a case of surplus, blast 150 rounds down range in a short period of time and not really have to worry too much about the cost and not having to invest hours into hand loading. A .22 is not bad to shoot, I just like the sks because something with some recoil is more fun. Tho nothing can touch the price of .22 ammo.

Sad but true!

A little side note, if you take your significant other to the range for the first time...they will swoon toward your SKS and love firing every single shot from it.
It really is a fun gun! Eats up ammo quickly though. I took my friends and gf to the range (popped 3 cherries, including the gun's) and everyone enjoyed the SKS the most.

Sometimes the shell extraction is hilarious, one of them went straight up, came down and hit me in the head.

I asked a couple of friends about theirs, and the response I got was "they are a great gun to send a lot of ammo down range with inaccurately." But they never told me how much fun they are to do it with!

I dont completely understand people who say SKS's are inaccurate. My buddies Rusky SKS can manage 5 or so inches at 200 yards with irons and surplus ammo. I'll see if he can upload some pics.

Cheers.

Always fix bayonets and charge your target at the cease-fire?:dancingbanana:

Of course not!! the first rule of SKS club is that you don't talk about SKS club!!
Unfortunately, someone is breaking that rule all of the time because people here are always joining and buying their first, then second, then third...etc and then shooting the he!! out of them and posting how much fun it is as well as taking complete novices out with then and making new members!! Someone has to stop the madness or everyone will have one, or two, or three, etc...

Nice looking SKS. Even more interesting is the phone on the wall beside it. I didn't think anyone still used dial. :)

Thank you!

The Phone is a Relic for sure. My dad got that for me from an old Bell service guy that had one kicking around. It works great, but I don't really use it unless the batteries are dead in my cordless phones.

But you just broke the rule as well :p

:D

It was my first gun, got my RPAL back in January. I've got 4 now, and a new gun cabinet just to house the soon to be growing collection...

SKS's being inaccurate is quite overstated. Target rifle .25 MOA accurate? Nope.

Sub 3" with 5 rounds at 100 with surplus and sub 2" at 100 with S&B? Yes.

When you get enough practice to compensate for the rough ergonomics, SKSs are actually quite accurate, relatively speaking.
