I'm thinking of my 1st semi-auto (in .22 cal, manufactured not conversion kit.)

I've read reviews about the GCG and the Kimber and the Chiappa.
They're all almost the same with minor differences. But then again, you know, reviewers who write for the media almost always "like or love" the fireaerm they're reviewing and will stress the positive.

Would appreciate opinions from fellow CGN-ers and most certainly from those who have actually handled/used these models.

x2 on a ruger. From what i've read, the slight increase in price over the chiappa more than outweighs the increase in quality. My mk III 22/45 if pretty flawless.

I have the Chiappa... not overly happy with it... paid $450 at P&D... thinking of selling and getting a GSG :)

....and now

....... that I have read the responses and been visiting with and reading about the Mark III 22/45 Hunter, I guess that I'll be switching my choice (even though for a much larger price difference.......)

I thank everybody who has helped me not stray from the path (trajectory) of the better .22cal semi-auto.
I just hope the 1911s won't hate me................

P.S. I'm STILL waiting for the test results from CFO Ontario.
My application has been online from the 24th of Sept and is only
missing the CFO's stamp. And my 1st handgun ---already ordered---
is/will be the Heritage Rough Rider in .22cal

The Mark III (22/45)'s are supposed to have a pistol grip angle which is more like a 1911. The Mark III has a 'more' pronounced pistol grip angle (resembling the famous German Luger).

FYI -- I have heard that the Mark III (22/45)'s are more (plastic/polymer)'y in comparison with the plain old Mark III which is all steel.

You can't go wrong with a Ruger despite some of the new 'nuisance' features which have been introduced since the Mark II (magazine disconnect, loaded chamber indicator).

With proper care it will last a lifetime and is quite accurate for it's price tag.

I'm going the 1911.22 route ;) 10x easyer to clean & field strip. I own a Browning buckmark field which shoots excellent. but I've always liked the 1911 feel better.

But which model? Chiappa, GSG (ATI) or Kimber?
The Chiappa is cheaper, the Kimber is prettier but the ATI is made-in-Germany..............

Thumbs up with GSG. Very accurate and eats everything I feed em. I was also looking at Chiappa before I bought the GSG. I was not able to shoot the Chiappa, but the fit and finish of the GSG is a lot better. I shot some Kimber conversions from friends and they are really good but I needed a dedicated gun as 22 1911.

Go for GSG if you can or Kimber.

Want to buy a Chiappa? Paid 450 for it... target version... would sell for $300 about 2000 rounds through it.. works well with CCI Blazer ammo... just about any other ammo doesn't work well...

the GSG is a very nice unit. I am used to sig quality finish's and this gun really has me pleased. Not too fond of all the logos on it, but i'll get that re-finished one day. The weight is right, the grip is nice, the trigger is adjustable. 80% parts in common with standard 1911's means you can cusomize it how you want.

Been through a bulk pack of federals, with a stove pipe and one FTF, really happy with the reliability.

The mag is high quality, wish it came with 2. Blueline has mags for them.

I recomend this one to everyone i know who likes to shoot on the cheap!!!

first choice is a STI Spartan gun with an STI or Kimber conversion kit

second choice is a Norinco 1911 with an STI or Kimber conversion kit

third choice is a GSG 1911 then I'm changing the sights, trigger & main spring housing.

I've done a review of the GSG...you can look it up here under rimfire.
Like I've said in the review...excellent BANG for your buck.

But with that said and you're interested in sticking with the 1911 platform.

I just came back from my local shop with info about Browning releasing one in the new year.

Browning 1911 22.

And with that also....Colt Umarex should be coming out with one this month.

I'd be very interested in the Colt Gold Cup version.

And both are reasonably priced around $400-$600.

Can't wait!!!

How are you making out with your application? I'm also waiting for my test results. Did you send in your application without the test results attached then?
