A Question on Rifle Brass

Very unhappy with my current lot of Remington 25-06 unprimed rifle brass. 5 percent had neck splits and imperfections upon inspection right out of the bag. After first loading many neck and shoulder splits, pin holes and such that appear to be due to poor manufacturing at the brass mill. Email fired off to the company with lot #.

Looking for alternatives and Canadian supplyer of quality affordable brass. What do you guys reccomend?
 
I use Winchester .308, no complaints from me.

If I remember correctly, some of the other guys on the board are beginning to find problems with the Winchester stuff though.
 
I have had lots of grief with newer brass from most manufacturers. I shoot 25-06 alot and just use sized 30-06 from the range as it is plentiful. Just toss em after they show any signs. I have alot of old dominion brass sized to 25-06 and it seems to last forever. Maybe starline or nosler has decent 25-06 brass? Buddy has a short mag 270 and his brass is only good for one reload.

I have Remington brass from the 1980's that I still load today...222,22-250, 6mm, 25-06, 30-06, etc.. Some loaded a dozen or more times with little loss of accuracy and only the odd split or otherwise defective case. Was very happy with it for the most part. Stuffs getting old and I am in the process of changing a lot of it out. Absolutely shocked at the poor quality of the 100 25-06 Remington brass I purchased recently. I do think I will look to other manufacturers and some research is due.
 
For domestic brass, I have been a user of Winchester for many years. For the most part, it has been quite good. However, in the last bag of 100 7x57 cases, I got two with folded necks. Someone is letting their quality slip!! I an sending these cases back with a nice note. Eagleye.
 
Remington arms is now owned by a French holding company and sells Mauser rifles made in Serbia. 30% of the Remington-DuPont IMR line of powders is made in Canada by General Dynamics Weapons Division.

All of Winchesters-Olin powder is made in Florida by General Dynamics Weapons Division.

Neither Remington or Winchester produce ammunition at "ANY" American military munitions plants any more.

Corporate greed and the bean counters have more to do with quality control and there is a reason "WHY" bench rest shooters are using Lapua brass made in Finland.

So is Winchester, and quite a few others. Including, I believe, Lapua. (Sako, Tikka, Lapua owned by Berretta, which in turn is part of GIAT, which is a French arms company (as is Win, Browning, and FN, just to name a few). Largest arms company in the world, - dan
 
I have been using mostly Winchester brass with few issues. The last batch I bought was .338 Win Mag this summer and it was good, with none of the issues mentioned. I have found that the case necks on 30-06 were often dented and out of round, but a pass through a neck sizing die fixed that. No other calibres had issues with that like the '06 did. I have been using PRVI brass in 22-250 with good results. The primer pockets are tight on them when new, though.
