Norinco JW15 backpacker

I'm picking mine up tommorrow, as for the .22 magnum, I'm not sure what I'd need one for, but maybe I can come up with some justification by February.

I was doing some reading and apparently the .22magnum loses about 100fps(with 40gr) going from a 18.5" to a 14" so the 13" should still pack a pretty good punch, but in kind of a impractical envelope for varminting.
About the only use I can think of is shooting farm animals behind the ear.
A job my .357mag Marlin 1894 has been doing with low powered cast bullets with far more reliability then a .22LR and a lot quieter than a short barreled .22magnum.

NO-I think this short barrelled .22 will be an excellent utilitarian rifle-its not likely the choice of the long range target shooter, or the varment hunter. But it WILL be an excellent choice for being stowed behind the seat of a pickup truck or on a quad. The synthetic stock means you won't worry about dinging up nice wood, and as long as the trigger is good, then there's not much to go wrong with a bolt action.But-does anybody know what became of Bushnells compact .22 varmint scope which would be ideal for this rifle?-can't see any reference to it anywhere
A 16 '' barrel is the point the .22 reaches maximum velocity-so you'd give up a bit with a 13'' barrel, but not much-especially in light of what this rifle is designed for

I was talking about the .22 magnum version.
The .22LR version is as versatile as duct tape

We already spoke to the Distributer about 22WMR but Norinco no longer produces the rifles. There is hopes that Savage Canada will make a 13" 22WMR though. I realize that doesn't really help you at all but its good news for us.

Does anybody know if these things accept CZ magazines?
I tried 3 CZ mags in mine and two worked no problem, the other gave me some feeding issues. So the answer is maybe.

What's the price tag?
The shop I work at sells them for $198 with the 5rd mag. We are supposed to get some of the 10rd'ers with our next shipment.

most of the market is for the regular .22, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it offered in .22 mag.
Well, in this area of Ontario a 22WMR would sell better then the 22lr with the trappers in the area. I already had about 5 trappers come and say they wished it was in 22WMR

With that big globe on the front site, makes me wonder if you were to put a small compact scope (4x30), if it would be visible in the optic.

I would favor a WMR version myself, but would be happy with an LR as well.

this in .22mag or .17hmr .. or even 17m2 would be my choice.. as .22lr i find to be largely useless .. im still going to get one ( or build one if they dont become available in NZ )

Really?
For plinking alone it's the best round there is, as it's so cheap and there's plenty of options for target rounds as well. Powerful enough to take anything up to coyote sized game reliably, and did I mention 5 cents a round?:)
May mosey over to rimfirecentral for a range review, surprised there's none here yet.
