Hi, if I have a aftermarket barrel for a Remington 700 thread can it be threaded, sleeved, machined or whatever to fit a Savage, Tikka, Remington model 7 or other action. Is there a list of action thread standard sizes.

Thanks,
Chad

If you are looking for some 6.5 cal match heavy barrel take offs, let me know.

I have a couple for sale which can easily be rethreaded/chambered for any of the actions you are interested in. Lots of shank length to set back.

"...a list of action thread standard sizes..." Each manufacturer uses their own. Still a standard thread for a lathe, but not interchangeable with other manufacturer's.
You'd likely be farther ahead by selling the Rem barrel as is.

As long as there is enough material, virtually any barrel can be set-back and re-threaded for another action. The thread sizes are different, and in the case of Tikka/Sako, barrel shank is a bit different too, but it is done all the time.

Thanks for the quick response guys, thinking of doing a build and found a 22" 6br lv barrel with low round count. And of course i might buy the cart before the horse so to speak and want to know my options. I figured they all used different threads but just thought maybe some would have the same ones. Don't currently own a Remington but may have to buy one if all goes to plan. I own 3 Tikka/Sako 's and thought about a switch barrel on my 260rem but it sounds like it would probably not work.

Thanks again for your time.
Chad

M700, M600, M7 Remington shanks are essentially the same. Not exactly interchangeable, but only minor fitting required. Haven't worked on new Sakos or Tikkas, am not familiar with their threads. A M700 could not be recut for a Savage. Could be redone for a M70 Winchester, or Ruger 77.

Remington thread 1.062 dia X16 threads/inch
Savage bolt repeaters 1.062 dia.X20 threads/inch

Hmmm, maybe a Remington pre-fit with the barrel nut will will work on my m77 action if I put a generous coat of some thread lock or somethin....

Well.............. You'd need a fricken HUGE torque wrench to get the parts together, seeing as the Remington threaded barrel would be .060" bigger than the Ruger action threads. In fact the barrel thread minor diameter would be bigger than the action thread major diameter. A 20 lb sledge hammer and a welding machine might produce better results in that case. :HR:

Well if you were thinking the other way around you'd still be in need of mental help. I'd have to do the calculations but I am almost certain the major diameter of a .998" thread would be smaller than the minor diameter of a 1.060" thread. So in that case you wouldn't need the sledge but the welder would come in mighty useful in keeping the parts together. d:h:

Remington barrels can be reworked to fit M70, M77 and earlier Sakos, like the A-2. Necessary to pick up the thread, and recut to fit, rework the breechface, and adjust chambering & headspace. Unless you are doing it yourself might not make sense.

...back to part 2 of OP's question...

Large ring mauser(98's other than Turks) 1.10"x12 tpi. (55deg?)
Small-ring actions are 0.980x12 tpi

Let's keep compiling...then I'll have to buy a lathe!

We may even end up "Stickied" in gunsmithing...

...Just googled Moisin for kicks...
-od .975 16tpi Overal length .940
