Road hunting vs all others

Okay, I posted the video of the moose hunters on the road in the truck.

Everybody is critiquing the reason for the post.

Don't most of you think that this form of hunting is too sporadic and unsafe? Road shooting as I call it seems to be done with little research of the area and planning of the hunt(ie. occupied dwellings, no hunting areas etc.....). This to me seems like ingredients for disaster or accidents or death.

Too many times I have been in locations where the bullets are whizzing by from hunters that are shooting from the road or in their vehicle from 400 yards away from me and I am 400 yards away from the animal, but they can make the shot they figure!!

I have changed my hunting to almost strictly bow, and in the forest in blinds or stands to get away from this.

If you can do it safe, so be it, but too many "hunters" take a carefree approach to it thus resulting in shot houses , live stock , other hunters( I know of one personally)

It is just a practice that is not helping our re-pore with the CO's and landowners, when they see hunters they are labeling everyone as weekend rambos with a violent streak.

Just want others to encourage and support ethical and safe hunting.

I really don't care..I would quit hunting if I had to use a bow..starting these types of threads..does more to hurt the name of hunters than anything.
Are you trying to get road hunting stopped??..I have several friends in wheelchairs, kids in a car seat..and older people and can not walk very well..so I am not against road hunting.
If I am on my way to a hunting area..and see a big buck crossing a field that I have permission on ..I am shooting..but I never go in areas that I am not familiar with.
There is a reason to wear the proper colors..so if your hiding in a bush and someone shoots on the edge..well..thats too bad..there are risks in hunting.

I am referring to the individuals who are NOT researching the hunt area, people who decide to buy a license and just go driving and see if they can shoot something.

That is exactly what the anti hunters want to hear my friend.

Think we want them to know there are no "risks" in hunting, then we can prove our point and validity of it's safety and use of firearms during the hunt. Yes I do hunt rifle also depending on season and draws , so don't think I am being a kill joy, but we must police ourselves for the endurance and credibility of the sport.

Like I said, I am against doing it unsafe. I did emphasize if you can do it safely then good.

No pissing match intended, I don't think anybody wants to see someone's property or others get injured or be injured themselves


There is risk to crossing the road also and I am sure we would help someone from stepping into traffic if the situation called for it.

What we have to do is encourage safe behavior and practices.

And besides if we all did everything the same way and agreed with what everyone did, it would be a VERY boring planet!

Bow hunting is so unsafe, I cringe whenever I do it.
Tree stands are dangerous, so high any tippy, oh...

I don't think the OP is referring to disabled people or such, more so the people that are blatantly too lazy to get out of their vehicles.

I know people who can't walk very far and do drive around hoping to put some meat in the freezer, and don't harbour any bad feelings towards them. However, anyone that is just too damn lazy to park the truck and walk a hundred yards into the bush gets no respect from me.

In my experience, those that immediatley come to the defense of "road-hunters" are, in fact, "road-hunters" themselves.

Futhermore, nothing is more damaging to the image of hunters and firearm owners than people that aren't able to have a civil debate about something.

I'll bet more people are killed driving on roads than from hunting them. Just wanted to say it. I like bow hunting, on days it's frustrating but it's worth it.

If I am on my way to my area and spot something from the truck in a place I know is safe, out I go, lock, load, bang.

I aim for the head whenever I possibly can, because I have confidence in myself.

I think some should go to the UK and go ride around like a bunch O fairies in your red riding jackets discussing how Superior you as hunters are. Then again if you want a fair matching of man against nature, as the undertones of this thread suggest, hunt with a rock.

In my eyes, it is not about whether one is more divine, or skilled than the other. In my area, these guys drive around for hours on end, scaring deer away from those that have decided to hunt a nice quiet area that perhaps they have invested time into scouting. Even when they see blaze orange in an area they are driving, they don't back out and leave the area alone.

It's about respect to other hunters. That's all.

How some hunters on here will condone road hunting, then in the next breath swear an oath to press charges against the next "anti" that bangs pots and pans to drive away wildlife, interfereing with their hunt.

Again, most people who defend road hunters, are just that themselves.

Please read my posts word for word. I am not saying anything against your practices done safely which you all stated you do.

I will do point form for everyone.

-I did state if you do it safely then GOOD.
-I also stated I DO hunt with rifle
-I never stated i was "devine"

I never once made any reference to man vs animal.

Why are you hunting so close to the roads then? 400m from the road is only 400m. I can't see how a 5 minute walk makes much of a difference. I thought we were talking about hunting in the wilderness vs road, not road vs just past the ditch.

Perhaps we have a different view of road hunters...

Where I hunt, the area is filled with old logging roads, that are little more than grown in trails that you can just get a truck down, with old clear cuts every now and then, getting narrower the futher into the bush you go.

I am refering to the guys that will constantly drive every little trail that they can possible squeeze down all day long. These are not govermnent maintained roads. It still doesn't help when a hunter tries to get way out there, away from everybody, but these "road-hunters" still drive around out there.

I've gotten myself 15-20 miles out on one of these roads, where the brush is scraping the side of the truck on my way in, and found a nice place to sit, when along comes mister road-hunter scraping along the road, branches squealing on the paint of his truck all the way, scaring off anything for 10 miles.

I am not merely 400m off the road, but 15 miles from it!

Why do these road hunters even bother. Don't they know that they can shoot a deer on the internet using a remote control rifle? Why waste the energy of even walking to the truck? Oh, wait, they say "that isn't hunting..."
