I've been offered a pristine original and barely fired S&W model 25. I don't know much about these and have never seen one before but it makes a perfect mate to my Model 27 and 29. Anyone have an idea on values of these things? (this one isn't cheap) Accuracy? It's blued with almost no dragline and comes in a presentation case with moon clips and some 45 autorim ammo as well. Need some advice to make up my mind to purchase it or not. Thanks

First, make sure it's the Model 25-2 [Model of 1955 Target] in .45ACP not just the regular Model 25 that's in .45 [Long] Colt..... ;)

If it's a Model 25-2 in .45ACP/.45 Auto Rim it should have a 6 1/2" pinned barrel.

They are a very nice S&W "N" frame wheelgun.....

NAA.

My 2010 Blue Book puts the M.25-2 at $700.00 in described condition. $850 for early 6 1/2" pinned barrel model.

Thats "USA" pricing so adjust accordingly for the Canadian market and availability. You're going to have to determine if the asking price is in-line with paper value.

Hope that helps. Sounds like a really nice gun.

25-2 with 6.5" bbl in excellent condition should be worth around $700-800 here. It was also available with a 4" bbl (as well as the S&W custom shop orders with any length bbl you wanted), but they are unusual. Worth more stateside, of course, as 4" and shorter are a prohib up here. Are you sure it's a 25? There was also the Model of 1950 and the Model of 1955 (will be marked on the side of the bbl), before S&W gave them all two digit model numbers (marked inside the crane). I have one of the 1955 models, nice revolver (and a 4" Model 25, but in 45 Colt). FWIW - dan

I wouldn't hesitate. Mine cost $500 and had a bit of rust and a couple of internal problems which I cured. Now shoots at least as well as my wad gun and I'd be loathe to part with it. Revolver matches are great fun.

Unless he's asking the world for it you'd be crazy NOT to get it if you like revolvers. The ability to use full moon clips in matches and given that they'll have the "usual" S&W trigger with the accuracy that this encourages is certainly not lost on myself. I'd be all over a decent price on such a gun like sugar on Halloween! ! !

I bought it. $800 with 6 boxes loaded 45 autorim as well as a bunch of moon clips and presentation case. It's as mint as one can get although it had pachmayers on it which need to go in favour of real wood or a hogue monogrip.

Sounds like a "Happy End" to me.... :)

That's a good deal for all that. I usually put original wood on my N frames because I like the way it looks, but for actual shooting the goodyear grips tend to work the best, with Pachmeyer Presentation working the best (for me) on the heavier recoiling guns. - dan

I prefer the hogue monogrip on my model 29 44 mag and really like the feel of the one piece pachmayer grip although I find it so hideous I can't bear to install it. I have original wood on my model 27 357 mag though just 'cause it looks so damn ###y.... :D

Shot it for the first time last night and managed to print consistantly in the black all night Shooting 45 AR with SWC's at 20 yards. This is quickly becomeing one of my favorites.... :D

Congrats on the find.
I walked into Al Simmons gun shop last week and they had a very nice, lightly used 25-2 in the display case.
I brought it home today and have not had a chance to shoot it yet but am looking forward to it.
This may be sacrilege but I am thinking of having Roger Katanko cut it down to 4.5" or 5".
I have the Ruger GP100 with the 4.2" barrel and I really like the way it points.
