Foreword "This thread is nothing but a shameless plug about the awesomeness of the AR-10. :D"

Yesterday, having abandoned my kids at my mothers, Epoxy7 and I spent the day at the Mission club with the DND Armalite twins. Mine has only recently been acquired, it's my first AR :dancingbanana: and as far as I can remember this was my first day firing an AR of any kind.
On a side note my family and I are now members of the massive Mission range. I signed us all up yesterday having been so impressed with the range and its facilities on a previous trip :). Sorry little POCO range I like big girls more :p.

Mine is in the fore ground and Epoxy7s in the back with the over compensating scope.

Like a high school prom date I grabbed the easiest scope at my disposal which happened to be a Burris Fullfield II 3x9 , at the time strapped on the SL-8, and fed the beast with my version of the Fed Gold. Seirra Matchkings HPBT 168gr, 43.4gr IMR4064, WIN F.C. brass and CCI bench rest primers FYI for the CGNers This round has been amazing in 2 different Tikka tactical .308s, 1 Remington 5R Milspec and now 2 AR-10s.
Sighting in and becoming accustom to the gun and trigger took 30 rounds, a rather quick 20 minutes.

5 round 100m group. Rounds 31 to 35 from a front bag rest and rear unsupported. A fairly warm to the touch barrel, approximately 15.C with over cast sky's and no wind.

After a target change and a few rounds spent on some objects giving me lip further down range I returned to the 5 rounds at 100m song and dance. Rounds 51 to 55. From the bipod and unsupported rear.

5 round 100m group. Rounds 56 to 60. From the bipod and unsupported rear with a pretty damn warm barrel.

Having become bored with punching paper Epoxy7, having switched to his 5R, and I began engaging those lippy targets out to 300m. It was at this point that Epoxy7 made a last masterful shot to end the day on a lippy golfball sized object out at approximately 310m .

Disclaimer: No woodland creatures were harmed during the days outing.

The real reason we can't hunt with AR-10s is because all the woodland creatures would simply fall dead at the mere mention of such a firearm entering the forest.
The massive loss of wildlife would cost the Canadian government/tax payers far more to repopulate the Canadian wilderness than the extremely effective long gun registry has cost thus far. :pirate:

But Mission has the stupid one shot policy, yes? Nice facility, but poor attitude. No thanks.
Good shooting guys.

I should have swapped the trigger out of that lower on Fireball's rifle and put it in mine.

That was a fun shoot. Love shooting the AR10 rifles.
Excellent shooting with just the bipod Fireball.

Hey Fireball. I should send this link to your wife!!! I'm sure she'd love to see some pics of the new range, the rifle and the targets. -Wonder if he's told her yet about the range-

We only shot one shot at a time. No full autos here.

Yes unfortunately the AR10 is (even though it shouldn't be):

Awesome shooting guys. Looks like the gun, ammo, and shooter combo works like a bastard!

I'm still looking for time to get my 308 on one of the longer ranges out here. I'm hoping I can at least get on Delta Range (300m) before it gets too cold for comfort. :)

Shhhh, I have a 1' piece of rubber hose with your name on it. :D

Actually she excited about not being left behind all the time and it's cute that I got the kids range user cards too.

It wouldn't have helped you. :p

Yup and we were only firing 1 gun at a time. :D

Hey Wicked - what .308 do you have? Did you ever get an R25? If so, how do/did you like it?

To the OP - nice shooting - and, nice firearms. Looks like you guys had a good day.

Nice guns. I wish someone would make a version like the old Dutch or Sudanese AR 10s...

Me too. I like the original ones as well.

Quick note about these two rifles. Both of these Armalite AR10 rifles are special in their own rights. They're both Former Canadian Department of National Defence uppers with the 24" match barrel, ceramic coating and 1:11.25 twist rate. Pretty much the same barrel as on the SASS only in 24" instead of 20". I know mine was a test upper so exactly 200 rounds before I got it. I'm not sure about fireball's. It may have been a test model or one of the bring backs. I think it was probably a test model looking at the shape it was in. But can't be sure on that one.

They are excellent shooters (.5 moa with 168 Federal Gold) and have some Canadian History. Both are also marked 7.62mm on the Lowers. These Armalite rifles are the same model that's being used by the Canadian spotters for our snipers in Afghanistan. Or where at least. I heard they may have switched to SR-25 rifles.

Not a Knights Armarment SR-25 but not your run of the mill AR10 either. ;)
I like them :D

Here's a picture of one of these rifles being used in Texas by Canadian soldiers preparing to go to Afghanistan.

I'd be afraid to take your SR-25 out of the safe!!! Sort of like owning a Ferrari. Where the hell do you park it? Does it have it's own safe? :p

You're welcome to come shoot with us when you're out here. We can have an AR10 style shoot day.

I only babied it until I dropped it the first time. After that, it's just a gun, the next few falls and drops didn't even cause a raised eyebrow.

:p

I'm not sure when I'll get back out that way. Not soon enough....

Maybe I can get my troopmate out with his HK417 if the team still has it. Nice enough gun, but after shooting it back to back with my SR-25, I do prefer the Knights product.

I was the same way with my quad. It's the first scratch that hurts!!

Always happy to go shooting the more the merrier.

Ya. The indoor range and cqb has spoiled me.

Rain and snow aren't good training environments, depending on the theater of operations. ;)

I would say get the AR-10, or the LMT MWS. You'll save a lot of money, and it looks like they shoot just as well.

But then, you're up there, you can afford the expensive toys. lol

They don't anymore. So second hand is your best bet if you can find one. Fireball was looking for a long time. One came up in the EE.
