Velvet mulie

We got Dogleg Junior onto this guy first thing in the morning. Two things stood out, it was on my own place and he still had most of his velvet.

Oh yeah, Weatherby Mark V synthetic, .257 Weatherby, 100 grain Ballistic tip and 300 yards. Leupold FX 11 6X. One shot in the center of the shoulder.I think he's sitting at 11 straight with that rifle now, includeing 3 sets of doubles.

Nice mule deer! Last year I shot one very similar in size to yours on Nov. 13. He also had most of his velvet, but I believe this was due to an older injury to one of his front legs. I think this prevented him from rubbing. Any sign of an injury on yours?

I just got done boneing it out and couldn't find anything except a healed cut/splitt on his nose. If I had to guess, I'd say a broadhead cut from last year. We'll never really know of course.

He shoots his hunting rifle and target rifle regularily out to 500, and some of my rifles out to 650. He's kind of a work in progress.

Yeah, he still has a couple WT tags. I think the kid is going to get a freezer for his birthday, and another for Christmas.

He's still useing your old gun too.
