CZ 858 shooting 50-200 yards open sights ??

Just debating with myself if I am going to get a CZ 858 or a SKS still. I want a gun that is going to be good for target shooting with open sights at 50-200 yards away. I had a SKS, and it was'nt that accurate when I shot with open sights at a gong that was 150 yards away. I could only hit it about 25% of the time. All of my other guns, including my Ruger 10/22 could hit this exact gong almost every time I pulled the trigger..

Is the CZ 858 much more accurate at targets in the 50-200 yard range with open sights, compared to the SKS? Or, am I likely to find similar accuracy because the commie bullets suck?

I am going to probably take this gun Deer hunting up North for a week every fall also, and use this gun for pushing the bush, and most deer are shot from 50-200 yards away, and quite often, they are shot while on the run. That is why I need open sights.
 
my buddies new 858 hit a gong at 200yards last weekend 4/5 times in his best string. And that was with surplus ammo using just his elbow as a rest.

The CZ is a very nice gun forsure
 
If you can't hit a gong at 150 yds with your SKS it's either shot out or it's you.

I don't have any trouble hitting steel silhouettes out to 500m with either of my 858s on a regular basis with irons or my red dot.
 
HAHA. CZ 858 vs Norinco m14. Gong at 500 yards! cz 858 best round 3/5. Norinco m14 best round 1/5. Standing up, everyone tried each acouple of times. Both are solid guns, one has cheaper ammo.
(now that I think of it the .308 ammo was part of that bad batch that was floating around awhile back.lol)

The SKS I had was definetely not a shooter. I can hit the gong all day with open sights with my 10/22 or my Marlin 30-30, but not with the SKS.

Thats why I wanted to know if the CZ is similar to the SKS, as far as shooting with open sights at these ranges.
 
PM Exocet on this board. He shoots czech surplus ammo out of a box stock 858 to 500m in service rifle comp at least once a month. He put 8 out of 10 inside the 762mm ring of a fig 12 in the prone 500m match last month.

He was trying an SKS for a while, but the 858 seems to be the winner for him.

If you knew it was a poor rifle, why are you using it as a baseline to compare to? Your question would have been better phrased as: "Do 858s shoot the same as a shot-out SKS."

My SKSs don't shoot any worse than my 858s.
 
I have both rifles and am pleased with both. I can hit a gong at 200 yards with the CZ858 and the SKS. Buy both guns and enjoy yourself. The SKS is cheap enough and the CZ is not bad either.
 
I finally snapped and picked up an 858 on friday. I honestly went in to see if Bartons had M-pro7 gun cleaner in yet, then it just happened. Anyways Ive cleaned it but havent shot it yet, but I can tell you its alot more compact and lighter than the SKS by far. As far as packing it in the bush, its the Tikka of Semiauto 7.62x39 rifles IMO. One thing I have noticed is the front sight blade is much thinner than the SKS', the sight picture is alot nicer. The test target that came with it was a pretty tight group, and I would imagine they use the same Czech milsurp ammo? I say go for it, its one of the few "EVIL" rifles we are allowed to own, and you can go no-restricted!
 
My SKS is fairly new, in other words not shot out. At a hundred yards, it's not accurate. My 858 at a hundred, no problems while the gun is cold.

My stepson has the VZ 858, and has no problems hitting plates at 300 yards with open sights.

Accuracy varies from SKS to SKS. You roll the dice and take your chances. I love my 858, and prefer it to the SKS. What matters is what you prefer.

I've never had good luck with SKS rifles-like 6 moa+ groups (including shooting them on a bench). The stocks don't fit me well, and I can't seem to conform myself to them as with other rifles.

My sole 858 has outshot all the sks type rifles I've owned or have tried (3) by far.
