9mm relaoding advice

Alright guys I want to take the plunge and start reloading for my pistol and I need to ask where I can get a good price on bullets and what one are decent. as well as some possible recipe's for target shooting with my kimber stainless2 1911 9mm if anyone has any advice or experience reloading for this pistol or anything helpful your input would be appreciated immensely, especially the part about finding cheap bullets.

I just started using Berry's plated 124 gr bullets from Jo brooke firearms,(a sponsor here) They were $105/k shipped to my door in Barrie, I've been using 4.0 grains titegroup, and my Baretta really seems to like it. I like the bullets so much I want to try the 185 gr hollow base 45's next

Do the math....reloading 9mm is not worth it.

9mm 124gr 1000 rd = 270 before tax

reload
9mm 124gr 1000 rd = 108
gunpowder 1 pound = 35
primers 1000 = 40
brass = free from the range

total = $183 before tax
save = $87
i shot 9000 rounds last year = $783 savings.
on my wage thats awsome, lets not forget the new rifle i got this summer with some of that savings.

worth it, yes i think so.

its even more saving if you buy in bulk with others that you know, your saving on you bullets and powder can get really good.bullets are even cheaper if you shoot lead instead.

now that my GF has just bought her first handgun wich is 9mm i'm sure that the savings will be even be more.

To orginal poster. i dont know a load for your gun but i like two powders . longshot when i'm shooting steel competitions and tightgroup when shooting IPSC.

really? hmm how do you figure? cause i can load 1k of 9mm for under a 100 bucks if i used cast of about 140 if i use AIM, seems to me thats allot cheaper then the average of about 300$ a case for factory ammo.

as for bullets, i can get you a good deal if you want cast lead, if you want plated i would say deal with aim directly i saved a ton when i bought 4k off him this summer.
 
Here we go again:D

Costs me less than 70 bucks to load 1000 rounds 9mm 124 grain TC under 4.4 grains Universal with my own cast bullets from WW I buy for $0.45 per lb. Yes, tire shops in my area know the value of WW.

Reloading/casting is my hobby so value of labor/time is not factored in.

Well worth the money and effort to reload, IMO. But it is not for everyone, which is a good thing or WW would be scarcer and more expensive and free range brass would be a thing of the past.
 
I'll tell you what fellows. I appreciated your concerns over my finances and all (fellow shooters all want each other to save more money and thus shoot more) However I believe I already made a post about 2 years ago about the economics of reloading and I am far past that point and I enjoy it as part of the hobby as well as the economic benefits. so if we can get back on topic and possibly get some posts or pm's about the original question about good, cheap 9mm handloads for a 1911, and I do believe the 1911 would have trouble cycling lead but perhaps I stand to be corrected.

Write you mpp and the attorney general's office and speak out against the Ridiculousness of the Breed specific bans I.E. Pit Bulls.

same load i use, works great in everything ive tried it in.

as for lead in a 1911, i think its more the shape of the bullet that would matter, my 1911 cycles 230 grain cast bullets no problem, doesnt like the 200 grain SWC though.

The dog in my avatar is a dogue de bordeaux not a pit bull, there is no ban on them that I am aware of, his little buddy is a Rotweiler so I know all about people and government looking down there nose at people that own dogs that don't fit there criteria...I am with you there should be no breed specific ban no matter the breed....

Back to your original question, I am currently loading Zero bullets, 9mm fmj-c it is their competition bullet, I like them so much i have sold off my BDX and Aim bullets as they are far superior in my opinion...:D I was using a boat load of Aim bullets but my CZ spo1 did not like them, I had to load them way to short for that gun because of the bullet profile. I did e-mail them about it with a few general questions and no one returned my e-mail so I dumped them and moved on...

Zero's can be had from Double Tap sports when he has them, look at the top for a link, they are $100 plus tax for 1000, I load them with 4.4gr of Bullseye for all of my 9mm hand guns @ a oal of 1.100... If you are looking for lead projectiles they can be had around here for like $29 for 500 i think...If you want a sample let me know I will send you some to try...:D
 
Everyone has an opinion on any subject and some of those just plain stink(opinions that is)
But, really can you put a price on ones form of relaxation or if someone is anal enough to figure out how many kernels of powder there is in 3.2 gr. of tightgroup powder?
I certainly should think not, but rather let the guy figure it out in the end if he/she is happy with the fruit of his/her toil at the end of the day.

the best thing about reloading is that you can play with powders, primers and bullets untill u come up with something that you like and your gun likes, my loads are what my gun likes to eat and what i like the feeling of, and as i said befor i have two loads for two diffrent activities. not to mention springs too

best thing is is to play with loads and figure out what you like and your gun likes.

either your over paying for bullets/brass/primers/powder. either that or you dont reload 9mm and you therefore dont know what your talking about.

i did the math and i save very close to a hundred dollars per 1000 rounds. brass is free.

Guys - stop it already. It's guys that think that 9mm is not worth reloading that keeps us in free brass :D
