ok...lately, my m14 is starting to develop an issue of not seating the second round.
Say, i put a new mag into the mag well and charge the rifle. fired once and the spent casing enjects, but the second round isnt chambered...
Anybody know why?

thanks!

:agree:
Great response Jacks_username as it was excatly what I was going to say with the exception of. Checking the mag to see if it has been properly seated.

I have gotten probably 3 emails a week for as long as i can remember now with rifle's doing this exact thing.... short stroking...... in 90% of those cases, the solution has been a correct cleaning out of the carbon build up inside the gas plug and inside the piston itself, which is mostly hollow all the way through.
the corrct tools for cleaning these parts are specific sizes of drill bits.
sadlak sells a kit but a guy can simply find the appropriate drill bits and yer in business.
you do not want to use abrasives such as wire brushes or picking tools.... nor do you want to use solvents that leave protective coatings.
brake kleen combined with the drill bits is a good method as it leaves no residue and works like a charm.... varsol is good too.

great !! thanks
btw, my firing pin is cratering the primer.. should I be worried ?

I wouldn't get too concerned about that unless you get pierced primers. Likely cause is the firing pin hole is oversized. Happens often on Remmy 700 and Savage 110 bolt actions too. A $100 bushing job could fix that if it is a concern, but likely isn't causing an accuracy issue.

My rifle didn't like the stock I had on. Would short stroke through the second and sometimes third round. No stoppages what so ever since I put a fiberglass USGI on.

The drill bits you are looking for are a letter P, a #15, and a #26. An inexpensive file handle kit will allow you to mount each of the bits in its own holder with a bit of Gorilla glue, and then swap them into the handle as needed. The #15 will be more useful if you can find a shop that sells aircraft bits as they are longer and the standard length #15 doesn't quite reach to the bottom of the piston. Close enough for government work though.
