throw some vz grips on it and dehorn the edges with an emery cloth, dont muck with the internals too much
With mine I put in a long trigger and a flat mainspring housing but that is just how I like 1911's to be set up. I also replaced the horrible plastic grips with a set from hogueauction.com , I bought a set of "seconds" for $17.98US and I can't see what the defect is. There are 214 sets of 1911 grips on there now and there is a picture of the actual grips you are bidding on for each auction.
I do wonder at installing a guide rod. The pistol worked through two World wars, Korea, and Vietnam without one and nobody complained.
The first change might be to grind the markings off it, so no one can see you're supporting a brutal communist regime, that's destroying our economy with predatory trade practices.
You are entitled to your opinion.
I will not grind down my pistols. I see no need for that.
I feel that my purchase of this firearm supports the people that made it.
The foundry workers, labourers, mechanics, machinist, gunsmiths, etc.
In my view, grinding off the markings, grinds the people down also.
I do not support the current Communist regime in control of government.
Nor do I agree with their despictable practices.
You are correct, in that they use predatory techniques such as artificially keeping down the value of their money, in order to obtain a trading edge.
They also supress civil rights and keep wages of the workers at a low level to help them keep that edge.
However IMHO. the people should not be punished for the sins of their governments.
The people do not have the democratic right to elect their representatives in government.
Should You or I be blamed and punished, simply because our own government of the day might be screwing-up?
Should I grind off the Markings on my Walthers and Lugers and Mausers, etc?
Just because they were made and used in the time-frame controlled by the brutal and murderous Nazi regime.
I do not blame the Norinco made 1911 pistol or it's makers, for the sins of the Chinese government.
I hope that you enjoy owning ang shooting your guns, as much as I enjoy owning ang shooting mine.
To the OP.
The first change that I would make.
Would be to change the pistol's satus from new, to well used.
With a few hundred rounds downrange you will be in a better position to judge for yourself what changes might be needed.![]()
I didn't end up getting a government model... But I found a norc that met my need for a bad @ss combat pistol:

change mag when empty
Wow! Are most Canadians this ignorant? Or is it their media's fault? You speak with such colourful sound bites that it's as though they really know the issues at hand.
Nor do I agree with their despictable practices.
What despicable practices?
the sins of the Chinese government.
What sins exactly? Sins such as the historical feat of lifting 300 million people out of poverty in an unprecedentedly short period?
they use predatory techniques such as artificially keeping down the value of their money, in order to obtain a trading edge.
For over a decade we (Americans mainly) lived in a state of euphoria, spending and borrowing on easy credit like there was no tomorrow. Now that the time to pay up has come suddenly it's China's fault because they have run a prudent financial policy? Let's do the same thing to them that we did to Japan and have them suffer for a few decades for our own mistakes.
They also supress civil rights and keep wages of the workers at a low level to help them keep that edge.
Yup make them pay their workers US$70/hr like GM for installing bumpers on cars. The fact is the Chinese market actually has a labor shortage if you can believe it and their workers have seen unprecedented wage increases. It's easy for someone like you to condemn faraway people and governments from the comforts of your living room but it's a huge world out there where your experiences and social conditioning are often irrelevant.
Meanwhile keep watching CBC (or CNN for that matter) to learn about the world. They make things sound real simple to their western audiences.
Just curious, what made you decide to put a heavier spring and FLGR in?
I would tend to agree. Same reason why you change the spring guide rod on a norc m14. It improves accuracy there too.As for the guide rod, I was talking to a guy who used to be a pro competitor with the 1911 and he swore it would give improved accuracy as the full length rod forces the spring to compress/decompress in the same way every shot. Uniformity of firing improves uniformity of accuracy.![]()
