WTF?!? Is anyone elses SKS bent?!?

I asked this before but got no clear answer: other than the chrome-lined bore, what are the differences between the military and civilian versions?

I can't help you my friend, as I collect the Russian versions. I do know that the Military stocks are more robust, the metal finishing is usually better, and I think the barrels are screwed on like the Russian models, not pinned as in some commercial models.

The early Chinese commercial SKS's were pretty bad - Alan Lever used to warn people that the SKS "D" was not the equal to commercially produced rifles from anywhere else. I take it the rifle shoots just fine - most of them did. The warped receiver and out of time barrel doesn't surprise me on that rifle, they were the first rifles that the Chinese made for the US market and the QC was almost non-existant. Most of the owners never realize that those issues are there, because the gun always goes bang and hits the target at 100m. If, however, you apply a straight edge and try to verify that the receiver is true you will run into more than a few that aren't. They were built down to a price point, as long as they worked, they shipped. The Mil versions are very different indeed.

hahaha classic fun makes its way to red rifles! My most trusted firearms were built in the U.S.A. Ben. Thanks for the info enefgee, that put it all into perspective. Like I said, I'll stick with the red dot. Thanks for everyones input.

I just checked both my SKS-D's and they are dead straight. They are also NIB unfired so they came from the factory perfect. Looks like it may have some hidden history since it was built. Maybe the original selling dealer had some damaged in shipping, damaged at the store, its all guesses though.

Too all the nay sayer, yes the shinese SKS-D's adn early chinese are all crap, PM me and I will take it to the scrap heap for you and pay you scrap weight cause I am just a hell of a guy.

there is a solution

Find out how much the reciever is warped and if it is only a few thou then shim the mount or surface grind the reciever. do this at your own risk if you take too much very bad things can happen, like your death or serious injury. For me if it shoots fine then leave it be.

Why Buy Chinese anything ,Rifles ,scopes, Binoculars and anything else for that matter. Its all junk.

I trust you have extensive experience to prove this point?? If I meet a rude french man once are they all like that too?? I love it when people make ann encompassing statements with no first hand experience to back them up. My early chinese sks has a high round count and functions as new, my ebay scope on my m14 is 2 years old several hundred rounds and still shoots dead straight. Hmmm I will keep doing what I am doing.

One obvious point has yet to be made here - the SKS design is brilliant in terms of reliability. How many other firearms could you bend and still say that they functioned at all? Seems to me that no one would have known the difference in this case if it had been kept the way that it was intended to be. Say what you will about Russian vs. Chinese...SKS's are tanks.

Could not agree more. Just lke the springfield vs norc m14 debate. Those that own both tout how they are pretty equal on accuracy and function.

Well some people can not judge quality on their own, so they must read where something is made and proceed to make sweeping generalization in order to help with their sleeping disorders.

Wow, maybe thats one of those guns like in the movie that shoots bullets curved? I have a civ norc sks and i'm pretty sure it's f'd like that, i'll have to check when I get to it but the way it shoots I would say thats what it will look like.

^^^ I know thats not true, my wife got some iPhone covers from chinaretailstore on ebay for .99 and they fit good!
