I'm looking to pick up a Norc/Poly synthetic stock, just to have a somewhat "scary" looking black stock on my baby that won't break the bank.

How much would one cost used (ie, someone just replacing it with something better and not having a use for the old one)?

Would they just fit right in on a 2007 Norc (ie, not a little too tight, or a little too loose) or would it require a bit of adjusting?

That current crop of 2009 Poly/Norc stocks (black plastic) will fit your 2007 Norc M14. You will have a drop in fit and be good to go. I did the same thing with my Norc M14 from 2007 and a black stock off my Poly M14. :D

They come up for sale in the EE Forum quite frequently for under $ 100 without metal work, more with the buttplate and screws. :)

Hope this helps,
Barney

Barney,

What do you think of the new crop of Poly/Norc black stocks? I noticed that they have the metal that the USGI fiberglass don't have. I have access to one. Switch it?

I did a review on the Poly 2009 Norc I had. I loved the black plastic stocks. After many years of the goofy, oil soaked, PCB drenched Chu wood stocks, I was most happy to own one of these black plastic stocks. :D

You all know that too often we pick out what is WRONG with something. Frankly, I'm kinda sick of that silly thinking. I would rather search what is RIGHT and sure enough the high school M14 builders of Zhina got the plastic stocks right. Stiff enough for hunting, no smelly toxic waste effluent oil or no WHMIS nightmare  mystery solvents that cause my #### to fall off!

Hey for the price, grab one. Many of you know that I'm a USGI glass stock kinda guy, but the black 2009 plastic stocks won me over because the profile is more of a medium grip/slightly fatter or stubbier than the slim line USGI glass stocks which are great for carrying/ competing or rapid shooting. :)

Having been an NRA High Power competitor for many years, I like the fatter stocks for that game. I just could not afford $ 500 USD for a McMillan M1A stock (google it and see what they look like)... so I built up my own USGI glass stock, the profile is just a big fatter than the current USGI glass stock, but mine is much stiffer with the added fiberglass and resin. :D

Hope this helps the M14 stock addiction,

Barney

Do you recommend bedding the norc black stock? BTW, some asian fellow I know just gave me his black Norc stock because he just replaced it with a ###y Sage EBR.

I agree with the girth of the Norc stock. It's much easier to grip than my current USGI.

Bedding into the black stock? All depends what kind of shooting game you want to do with the factory barreled action. You see since I'm coming from the NRA High Power game (200, 300, and 600 yards) I want everything bedded down completely.

In the Service Rifle or hunting games, bedding is not quite as important as being able to access your rifle's innards and keep things clean and greased. Once you bed that puppy down, then you only take the barreled receiver OUT once a year! That's all.

The rear mortises that support the barreled receiver do not lift straight out of the stock like a bolt action rifle/ sniper rig, they ROTATE out and in that motion, scrape/abrade the very surface that it is supported by. :(

And that's why I'm reluctant to glass bed your M14's when all you are shooting is SR CQB hunting and other short range pursuits.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Barney

True Barney, I'll keep mei-belle as it is.

Will it make sense if I do it for a purpose built configuration...like a DMR ;). I plan on building one unless I harass that fella who gave me the stock to lend me his ###y Sage EBR.

Yes, Barney was a pusher in his previous life :).

has anyone found a bedding compound that will actually adhere to the chinese plastic stocks?
I'm guilty of not being a fan of the chinese plastic stocks but as Hungry says, they are a vast improvement over the chinese wooden stocks and on par with any of the other plastic stocks such as ATI ect. , which aren't availlable for the m14. Just check that the stock liner is in straight and that there is sufficient ferrule/gas band gap (15 thou) and yer off to the races with an affordable and seemingly durable stock.

I like to recommend Polyurethane structural adhesives such as 3M’s #5200/4200, or Sikaflex 291/292/296. But be carful as it will permentaly attach the metal to the plastic if not properly greased.
