There is a big SIG Sauer sale regarding alumnium grips. 65$ a pair.

I was looking into this and is offered by some US pals to buy them and then send them my way. I'm very confused when it comes to US/Can import/export laws: To my understanding, they do not constitute a "significant" part and are under 100$. So there should be no issues?

I just don't want anyone to get in trouble :p

Thanks for the help!

I purchased a set of grips directly from Brownells in August...no problem.

It would be an individual shipping to me, not a company like Brownells; does it makes a difference for the 100$ exemption? I was in the assumption that the company had to be a valid exporter (Brownells) which an individual isnt. I'll keep looking into this...

It does make a difference who is shipping it. Brownells can do it because they are licensed to export and therefore the $100 exemption applies to them.
However, your friend is not licensed to export any gun parts and so it would be breaking American law.

Unless your friend is a business licenced by the US Gov't. for export of firearms/parts, your friend will be breaking US Federal law. The US$100 at wholesale ceiling is not relevant. It only applies to export of not specifically controlled parts by a licenced exporter.

SIG Grips

Those grips are a really good deal. I bought them last year at full price. I'm in the US now and buy directly from SIG. They do not ship to Canada as far as I know. Because I have an account with them, I get email advice of "specials" from my rep who happens to be an ex Canuck. His promotions are almost always very good buy and often less than half price. If you do get those grips, you will like them. They are very thin and light and have excellent texture.

Order my CZ grips and parts from CZ USA - Arizona and no problems what so ever. Avg. order amount is $100-$150.

US Purchases

There seems to be a lack of consistency but clearly the US company has to be willing to ship to Canada. SIG will not, Grayguns will not but others do. I purchased a holster from Bladetech which I got eventually but it was delayed. Another time I ordered shooting glasses from a company that had "gun" as part of its name, that was delayed, opened and examined. It can be a bit of a crap shoot and bending US Law is not a good idea. I had a non-gun related shipment seized last year by US Customs/The FDA. As reasonable as the shipment was under the circumstances, no amount of explanation and reasoning did any good. I never did get the package released and never did get official notice despite dozens of phone calls.

Check the laws carefully for a possible loophole. I f your friend comes to canada and brings the grips with him, they are not being exported. They are his. I will say no more, but check into the laws a little more, and make calls if you must. There are loopholds everywhere, and alot of times ways around everything.

SIG does not allow it's parts to be shipped out of US.
Brownells won't ship SIG parts ether out of US.
I know one US company that will ship but they will charge for export license plus shipping, so not worse it.

border stuff

I ordered grip from US never had a problem.

where is the sale??

Sometimes it's not the item but how it's described by the shipper. I had the same problem with Bladetech. It turned out they had called the shipment "gun parts". That was red flagged and delayed. I told the Bladetech folks to call our stuff "sporting goods". That is legal and doesn't make them feel liable. It could reduce the nonsense we have to endure. I bought a pair of shooting glasses from Gunnersall. GUN!!!! bingo delayed and examined and days later I got them.

I've ordered a sight pusher from Brownells and it's stuck at the customs for inspection since Dec 06... It's a tool, not dangerous goods

I guess everything that comes from Brownells gets flagged for inspection.. So far I'm 5 in 5.

For the record I've also had some SRT Kit seized meh :(

I have numerous horror stories. The bureaucracy of one country is enough to make you go mad. Try grinding through both of them. I have an example from last year that could make anyone cry. That had to do with legally prescribed, honestly described and shipped medications for my wife who was in serious need of them while we were 2500 miles from home. I got stuck between the Border guys and the FDA on that one and despite dozens of phone calls could not get simple medications released. Ultimately we drove all the way home (ten days) without those meds. So do you really think anyone cares about our tools and toys? You may as well talk to a bunch of trees.

This is beyond rediculous when someone's health is on the line... I've quit trying to understand the bureaucracy going at the customs..
