Norinco?? any good?

I've owned and used a few Norks including the 1911. Finish is a bit rough but not objectionable. Function is perfect and that's after 5 years of shooting. I put a Ciener kit on mine with no problems. I can highly recommend one; I've paid more for less.

:agree:
You said the key word cheap. Poor quality they are cheap for a reason it must be me because I don't get why people buy chinese optics ,and guns and then flood the forms with all of the problems they have with them it is getting old.

Never forget the old adage that you get what you pay for.

if you plan on getting a .22 i would go with a ruger mark III

as for norcs, they are rough around the edges, but will go bang when you pull the trigger....i love mine because of the prices and i was able to play around with the internals (stoning, polishing, bending etc) without worrying if i was going to break something....because i honestly didnt care.
(btw i have the 1911 police model)

For heaven's sake do some research before you buy a Mosquito. Use the search function, set it to look 36 months back, and start reading. It could save you a lot of grief.

I would also get an M-93 Woodsman copy over a SIG Mosquito. The M-93 is at least made of steel instead of zinc alloy (aka pot metal).

If you really want a S&W Model 41, get one. You will end up kicking yourself if you don't get what you really want. The older ones with an "A" prefixed serial number and the cocking indicator at the back of the frame are the best ones.

The Norinco 1911s are quite good for the money, but I would start with a .22 because it is easier and less expensive to learn to shoot with one.

Since 1987, I have had the following 1911s:

1 x Vega
2 x Remington WWII
1 x Colt Gov't Series 80
2 x Colt Combat Elite
1 x Springfield Armory Government
2 x Colt Gold Cup Series 80
1 x Para frame kit built with "hard slide", Barsto/Bomar
plus a few others that I bought and sold without ever shooting.

Now I have only 3 Norinco 1911s, a Gov't, a Sports and a Commander.
IIRC, as far as reliability and accuracy, my Norkies are equal to or better, out of the box than any of the above mentioned makes and models.

I have done some research on the mosquito and I see there are lots of people with problems. But there seems to be a fix for most of the issues. It seems alot of the good .22 are very ugly in my opinion. maybe not a good way to look at it but there it is. Nobody is perfect and I'm sure I will have some regrets along the way.

I really appreciate all the responses and opinions expressed so far. I plan on doing most of my shooting with a .22. I dont plan on spending a fortune on ammo to go out shooting all the time. The potential norc would be for fun once and awhile. At least untill I get the equipment and start handloading.

I just bought a Norinco SIG P228 clone and am impressed with the fit and finish. It looks very nice, with the only concern being the cheap feeling grips. Haven't been to the range yet, but soon. Feels like a real P-228, (Ihave one), and I am a bit of a SIG expert. Look down.

You need to sell all you SIGs now that you have started you Norinco collection. LOL... w:h:

OK so i own 2 Norc. M-14S's and i can get an inch and a quarter grouping at 100 yards with one of them.

Aswell as a friend of mine owns the following in Norinco:

1x m-14s- 308 win semi auto rifle
1x sks- 7.62x 39 semi auto rifle
1x chrome 1911- 45 acp handgun
1x blued 1911- 45 acp handgun
4x 9mm tokkerev- handgun
1x 870 12 ga pump- shotgun
1x bushmaster- 22lr handgun
1x winchester 1897 "trench sweeper"- 12ga shotgun
had 1x ar 15- semi .223

And he stands by the norinco name.

So far the only jams we have had with them is the following:

For the shotguns if you don't pump with authority they may jam (but that happens with the other shotguns i have used).
for the blow back handguns if you "limp wrist" them they may jam.

I give the company a solid 3.5 out of 5
I know that their is better out there but you do have to pay quite a bit more...

My friend gives it a 5 out of 5.
He says they do what they were made to do- be reliable and a good price.

The grips would appear to be the common complaint.. otherwise good bang for your buck pardon the pun :)

You get what you pay for.

Many people get one that functions perfect and they have no issues with it...others get one and have issues right away or shortly down the line. They are a decent gun for the price but there quality control just isn't all there yet based on my experience and the general views of CGNer's....that being said, I would still buy another one if it suited my needs and cash was an issue.

Indeed and sometimes you get far less... since there have also been incidents of the very $$$$$$ makes/models having big time issues.

Nope, I figure if I don't tell the wife the combination to the gun room or vault, I can keep the SIG collection and now start on a Norinco collection. What she doesn't know can't hurt me, BUT if she finds out, there will be a large collection going cheap.

Nothing wrong with Norc's! Anyone slamming them terribly has likely either never owned one or is just an elitist. Although word is some aren't spectacular, like some domestic cars built on Friday afternoons after a lunch of crack and malt liquor.

Besides, Dalton McGuinty is going to be using your tax dollars and universities training a whole batch more Chinese nationalists the skills required to create even more knockoffs. WOOT!

"Flood the forums"? Really? For every post about a Norinco with a problem, there's one for a Kimber/Colt/Glock/M&P problem...

Every manufacturer will have issues here and there but when it's a Norc, people say, "what do you expect? it's Chinese". If it's a problem with a Kimber: "It's a Kimber, call them and they'll fix it" (which they won't http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=517473)

edit: have you ever owned a Norinco? Have you ever even shot one?

If she doesn't have an RPAL, she's not allowed unsupervised access BY LAW. This is the one situation where gun control works in your favour - if she has unsupervised access to your guns and she doesn't have a PAL/RPAL you have committed a crime. Is that cool or what. :D

Well, nobody ever accused the Ruger Mk. series of being beautiful, but they do shoot well, have a good trigger, and will eat just about any brand of .22 you feed it. :D

Failing that, have you considered the CZ 75/85 series 9mm pistols, with a .22 conversion kit?

75 series: ht tp://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/79-pistols-cz/PST/

.22 conversion kit: ht tp://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/79-pistols-cz/PA/

I have the Shadow 9mm, and I reload for it, at around a third the cost of factory ammunition.
