I took my Glock 17 Gen 4 to the range for the first time last night and put about 150 rounds through it.

I shot about 20 rounds with no issues, my brother then shot another 20 rounds with no problem. My girlfriend then shot 10 rounds and had about 4 FTFs. I checked the mag each time and made sure it was all the way in.

I tried to limp wrist while shooting, but couldn't re-create the issue myself, and then put quite a few more rounds through it with no problems. I assume the problem was just limp wristing, but I didn't think it would be such a problem on a new Glock. I am going to put some oil on the slide rails when I clean it tonight, and take it back to the range by myself tomorrow and see how it goes.

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences or suggestions.

New, old doesn't matter...when I had M&P a female shooter made it jam a couple of times and it always worked fine for me. Plastic guns (light frame) are more prone to this or so I heard.

The weird thing is, she has shot another Glock 17 and an M&P 9mm before and never had a FTF with either. I'll do a solo range day to prove to myself that there is nothing wrong with the gun.

Sounds like a limp wristing issue. Maybe combined with the double recoil spring... If it's not an issue when you use it, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My friend had a very similar problem the very 1st time he had is G17Gen4 at the range. We shot for a bit then he had an FTF. We were using factory ammo. Long story short is there was one bullet that just wouldn't feed no matter what. All the other ammo went through fine but the one cartridge just would always FTF....... dunno why but thats what happened.

When you guys had the FTF did you somehow keep reloading that cartridge into the next clip and it may have been the same bullet misfeeding everytime on your GF?

Just a thought man, trying to think up possible reasons....... I wouldn't worry to much about it.

I don't think there were ever two consecutive FTFs. Each time it happened, I removed the mag, cleared the jammed round, and replaced it in the mag. The next round she chambered was the one that had jammed, and it fired fine.

I think the above noted is your problem.

There have been lots of reports of issues with the 9mm and that double recoil spring down south. Combine that with a little limpness in the wrist and its still a relatively new gun so that spring needs to break in a bit.

I have heard Glock is supplying a new spring for 9mm's in the US not sure about here, you could call them. That spring is really made for .40 I think.

I might be misunderstanding this, but if the FTFs were when she flipped the slide release or pulled back the slide and let it go, that may be the problem. I had a friend of my wife's have a few FTFs this way.. and she was flicking the slide release in such a way that her thumb dragged along the slide slowing it enough to not put it fully in battery.. If it was a double feed though, ignore this.. that's not the problem.

Cool man. Yeah was just a thought on maybe it coulda been a bad round.......

Good luck with it!!

Not really an issue anymore. I cleaned and oiled it this morning (especially the slide rails) and took it to the range. I put about 100 rounds through it and there wasn't a single malfunction. It was absolutely perfect. I can't say the same for my accuracy, but that is another issue. :)

ha well good to hear!! Also did you clean it before the 1st time you had it out?? if you didn't that wouldn't have helped. But good to hear she's beauty now!! Happy shooting!! :D

Yes, I had cleaned it prior to shooting it the first time, but hadn't oiled it until today.
