LMT 10.5's rock

If it's not the piston mod maybe a loose primer popped out and got stuck in the carrier key of the BCG unit. Blocking gas

As previously noted, I tried an entirely different bolt carrier assembly in the guys rifle. It's something in the front end that is limiting the amount of gas coming back.

i purchased one of these 10.5" lmt's from a local store (vancouver area) several months ago. had the exact same problem. couldn't figure out what the problem was either but know it was a upper problem. so i took it back to the store several times to get fixed and they could not fix it. after several trips back and forth from the store, their "repair shop", and the range they finally agreed to exchange the upper with me. eventually they swapped the upper for another from another one of their lmt's and it's been fine since. btw, i have heard several stories from other people that they have had the exact same problem with the their lmt's from this store. so i wonder if this person purchased it locally in BC also

I wonder about that batch of 10.5" LMTs from that BC Shop. There have been more than a few people with problems who have bought their 10.5" LMTs from BC. Were they actually original factory builds?

Not sure of the guns status right now. Last I heard Canada Post may have tried to send it to the USA by mistake.

LMT owner hopefully insured his shipment. This way he can get a brand new fully functional LMT at the expense of Canada Post.
Now if he actually addressed his shipment to LMT in IL, then there isn't much anyone can do. Didn't Mark of Questar ask the firearm to be returned to them??? He should have addressed it to Questar International Ltd.

Let us know the developements as it would be great to see a fellow LMT owner get his firearm back and shooting it with no interruption.

Well that makes no sense whatsoever

Canada Post sends stuff to the address that is put on the package... why would the sender put a US address? And if he did put a US address on the package then don't blame Canada Post for anything... that would be the senders fault if that happened.

Hope you're wrong about it being address to the US... a 10.5" rifle is a Class III firearm (SBR) in the US and is NOT importable or returnable in that configuration.

I think he meant it as a joke :bump:

Not kidding. The correct address was put on the box but the Canada post bimbo printed out a US scan label apparently. The owner would have had no idea as its just barcode info. They are still trying to locate it.

It arrived at our Canadian office... not to worry.

Good to know. Last I talked to him he was quite concerned. That was a few days ago though.
I'm going to laugh if he did something wrong with this gun and its all his fault. In fact I'll probably kick him in the nuts.
I should state that I'm still looking at purchasing almost the same exact gun, regardless of why his wasn't working, I still want one. Only with a 16" barrel.

It was nothing he did. The issue was a missing roll pin... should have been holding the gas tube in place but was not there. This allowed the gas tube to move... so every time the BCG cycled the gas tube got pushed forward ever so slightly... thus mis-aligning and closing off the gas port.

That explains how it function tested properly at the factory... and also explains why the customer described a problem that was intermittent at first but got progressively worse the more it was used.

We suspect this was a factory error... the roll pin just didn't get inserted during the assembly process. This is the first time we've seen this happen... We spoke to the factory as well and they were quite surprised and concerned that this could have slipped through their extensive QC tests. I suspect they will be making an internal change to their QC process to assure this can't happen again.

Anyway... roll pin has been installed... gas tube re-positioned... firearm range tested and re-inspected. Everything is working fine now and the gun is on it's way back to the customer (left here yesterday).

awesome. That's good customer service! Looking forward to playing with this gun again.
this is the kind of knowledge base that I love CGN for. Next time something similar happens with someones gun, regardless of make, people will suggest the roll pin. And you never know that might just be it.

Kudos Mark.

Well done Questar.
I've had two of those most excellent [ and most expensive ] LMT 10.5" uppers, and I've been watching this thread to see what the diagnosis and fix would be.
Nice to see a happy ending and a simple fix.
[;{)

My current LMT 10.5" upper has about 300 rds of .223/5.56 through it,
as well as about 800 rds of .22 LR with the CMMG conversion bolt.

So far the LMT upper is totally reliable with all the different .223/5.56 ammo I've tried,
and totally reliable with both the cheap Fed and WIN Dynapoint copper plated .22 LR ammo.

I suspected the problem with the OP's LMT might be a clogged gas tube, or clogged gas port. As I've been shooting off a lot of .22 LR ammo in mine, I've been waiting for a clogged up gas tube to happen with mine as well. However, I've been sticking with the copper plated .22 LR bullets, and I always use a few .223 rounds after every .22 LR session to blow out any deposits in the gas tube. So far, no problems.

But I am wondering if any one has had experience with their gas tube fouling up, especially with the CMMG kits and .22 LR ammo?

And,
where does one get those "pipe cleaners' for cleaning out the clogged gas tube??
Or will a shot of brake cleaner into the pipe now and then suffice?
thanks

On a standard upper, the gas tube roll pin is easy to see. Is it hidden from casual view on an MRP?
