i got a smith to do it.
Had the same ideas, s**t i don't want to f-it up.
Smiths know what they are doing and how to place something where it will not interfere with the internals of a gun. cost me 75 bucks to get it mounted and i waited a day and i have been really happy.

A gunsmith? pffff, only girlymen go to the smith
I was also worried about misaligning the rail, so I drilled the left hole first, mounted the scope with only one screw in the rail, and hit the range. It turns out that my shots were only on paper when the scope was tilted upwards, so I left the rail semi-crooked and drilled the second hole for the second screw. Easy as pie, just take your time.

He aint making em any more, I asked him a few months ago.
But he's willing to sell that mount-making-thingie if you're interested.

The middle hole has to be centered over axis pin. All procedure is quite simple...
