Hey guys,

I am just wondering if anyone has seen either a PE or PEM Mosin here in Canada? PU's seem to be around (repro and original). I am curious as to what direction to take my Mosin collection in next and either of these would fit the bill.

There are a very few in Canada - not many, though there are more repros than real ones. Most originals were de-snipered in the rebuild programs as the PU was by then the standard. Those that are around are usually Finn captures.

Funny you say this. I was just contemplating the same thing for the past few weeks. The top mount snipers are easy to get repro parts for if you find an ex-sniper. The one ex-sniper PE that I know of for sale right now is a side mount, so I was contemplating it as a restoration project. The side mount is hard to find though, repro or original.

I think finding an ex-sniper is your best bet if you ever want to have one. Look for a top-mount tho.

Thanks for the replies,

I have no issues with a repro thats for sure, I have seen a few ex PE and PEM's around for sale, just wondering where a repro mount and scope could be obtained? PU stuff is everywhere, PE and PEM not so!

I have one of each, the PE is by far the better of the two. The PU, requires very deliberate head placement to eliminate parallax problems. The PE isn't that much better but has a better field of view and is much easier to zero if the scope has to be dismounted.
The period scopes of WWII, were pretty good, they aren't as good as even the cheap scopes of modern day but, in practised/experienced hands, they served the purpose. The advantage the PU has over the PE, is the ability to shoot under the scope, using the original sights if things got hairy or the scope malfunctioned (not an uncommon occurrence).
Whichever one you pick, enjoy. They are better than most realise. It the rifles bores are decent, they will be very accurately with good ammunition. With general issue ammunition, don't really expect them to perform any better than an iron sighted rifle at a hundred meters.

Thanks for the input. I already have a repro PU and find it to shoot much better then any expectations I had prior. I think a nice PE/PEM would round out my group of Mosins.

Yes it's a repro, but it's absolutely gorgeous. (pics from my Crackberry)

Still have yet to fully appreciate her...however I now have 100 virgin Lapua brass that I plan on doing some extensive load developing with...

...but that is most likely going to have to wait till the spring...!

:(

Need to find a bayonet for her...and it's proving quite difficult!

I've spent too much time with you... I'm starting to have visions of burlap-wrapped PUs dancing in my head

Repro top mounts are easy to come by:

www.accumounts.com

They even have repro scopes. Side mounts are a different story.

But please don't make a fake. Try to find an ex-sniper to restore instead of bubbaing an original non-sniper... there's way too many of the fakes around.

Thanks for the info. Its not my intention to bubba a rifle.

ArtyMan what is the value of PE and PEM scopes. I have available items in Russia but I do not want to bring it here unless I know realistic Market price. PM me if you need to.

I sell PU scopes is it the same range or higher? What mounts type preferred for PEM or PE?

Thank you.
